I got 'yer "stimulus"!

The market crash thread just isn't sufficient to the flapdoodle that is taking place in D.C. in an attempt to save us all from, well, the government in Washington, DC. Herewith a thread to illustrate and illuminate the depredations of our purported survival plan. Fred Barnes starts out with a fairly calm assessment of matters thus far under a Democrat controlled government.

Lessons from the Stimulus Fight

Now for the entertainment portion of the thread!

And George Will on why we'll have to wait nine months minimum for Nancy Pelosi's stimulus plan to kick in. You cannot make this stuff up.

How can you mock this great, uplifting work?

I mean, Ashton Kutcher pledges to represent his country with dignity? How can you not take this seriously?

BTW about halfway through it I thought I caught a glimpse of Ioan Gruffudd (a Welsh actor)!!! What the hell is he doing taking the pledge? He must be taking the mickey! Yeah, that's it: the mickey.

A succinct refutation of the non-stimulative stimulus bill.
U-T Editorial: A looming fiasco?

While I am not wholly convinced that some action is not necessary, I'd be much more amenable to the idea were there the fleetingest of glimmers that what will be passed will be at all relevant to our current economy. So far, much of what I'm seeing involves nothing more than a further explosion of growth in entitlements whose weight we're already crushed under.

What gets me most is they say that somewhere at the root of the problem is consumer spending is off.
Take the 700 billion TARP, the 350 billion HOPE, the 819 billion proposed (and that is not even the sum total, just the big ones) add it all up and divide it by 130 million tax payers, send each one the 14,370 bucks this is costing them and me, personally, I'll show you some spending.

Now divide that by the number of tax payers that actually paid MORE than 14,370 bucks last year, and I get a new boat.
