Maybe this is an example of what guns do. When folks have them, they see less need to be civil or actually work with facts - rather they just push their way around all the while thinking about their "piece".
Get used to it. More and more people are realizing that they are responsible for their own safety and that the government has no duty to protect you.
You might be right.......
I was under the false impression that we had banded together and established laws, police forces, courts and other entities to help us stay secure.
But you are correct that, in general, that is not the FEDERAL government. As to local and state governments doing that, they do have the option and most do it to a certain degree.
Well, I've made it 55 years.....actually much more afraid of dogs and bears (wife had run-in with one behind the house this week).....so I may actually get some mace. I've had dogs try to get my leg while out on the bike.

Partially true. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away. We typically do the investigation after the assault or robbery. It's biscuts and gravey on the rare occasion we're in the right place to actually stop it from happening.

Boating for over 25 years, some of them successfully.
Yep, but I predict they are too chicken to actually rebel.......
Fear is what drives these people - it sits just slightly under the surface, and they will be putting their tail between their legs real quickly once they are confronted by the law and the rest of the law abiding society.
Hopefully, they will continue to get their jollies from paintball and talk radio.
I would vote, however, for the right of Texas and other states...who desire to do do...to leave the union. Fine with me. I'll still buy their oil and nat gas.
In some ways, these folks are similar to the KKK and to David Koresh and friends.......and they will probably end up in similar places, depending on how much they "act out".

I know that all too well.
In fact, I once knew that a crime was gonna happen at a certain time - and called the police who were right around the block from my store. Since no crime had been committed yet, they said there was nothing they could do.....
Well, we waited until 5 minutes to D-Day and called them back....and said "something is going down NOW at #123 Main Street - be there"......and, to their credit, they did come and we all had fun and ended up collaring the perps.
But we had hired a PD in the meantime, so were prepared to DIY anyway.
Of course, this was larceny....... so we didn't have to have a shootout on main street.
