I must admit that I love being lectured on war atrocities by an apologist for the former Soviet Union. But then I believe Crazy is Russian so it's not unexpected.

Did I ever apologize for the former Soviet Union? As far as I can remember, I’ve always said that I observe too many similarities between two countries. Well, except the education…

Hey, I'm Russian too......well, at least of slavic decent.....
(of course, so are tens of millions of Americans).....

Sometimes I think the reason we didn't get along with the Ruskies is that they are the people who seem the closest to us......competition and all.

Tell you what, though......they are certainly the heros of WWII.

Wow, that history makes some reading.......that puts "loss" into perspective. I for one appreciate what they did to the German thugs. Definitely showed them the right side of the gun barrel. Of course, many of those armaments were provided by us (we armed the Ruskies when they were in bad shape)......bravo, once again.

Too bad their government led them astray....but I'm starting to think that is almost natural....for big countries.

One assumes that the Brookline sage is referring to the Soviet peoples and not their government which employed the strategy of forcing their conscripts into mass slaughter, at the hands of the Germans, at bayonet point.

As to the rest of the post, suffice it to say that we share little in common with Russia, her peoples, or her government.

It also ignores the somewhat salient fact of the German-Russian Treaty.

No, I don't refer to people. Russians sucks. They are lazy dreamers and thinkers. When they wake up, they do revolution, break everything and start from a scratch, running out of gas half way through. It is Russian history from Ivan the Terrible, Peter the Greatest, Lenin and Gorbachev.
Americans are doers, so there is a hope.
However the countries have similarities, such as
Huge, corrupt political system, unable to reform
Ideologically closed systems.
Spread of their ideology and control over the glove, using blunt force.
Inefficient economics.
Out of control military budgets.
Largest in a world penitentiary systems (Gulag – 3 mil, current US -7.3 mil)
Full control over a population. I’m cranky here, I recently had a day when I was fingerprinted three times – CDL, TWIC, and while cashing a check, all three times I paid for the service. My credit report and DAC report contains more info about me than KGB file ever had, if there was such a file.
And, finally, unexplainable believe in their Grandness

It became not so salient on June 21 1941, and irrelevant on May 2 1945, when Russian successfully ended WWII by placing their flag on top of Reichstag.
