Interesting article in the Washington Post this morning by Christina Hoff Summers, who quotes Obama and some of the usual feminist nazis saying that Title IX should be used to open opportunities for women in science. For those who have forgotten, Title IX demanded that universities spend as much on female athletics as they do on men. That has most often been accomplished by cutting out men's sports to make room for the women in the budget, since there are fewer women interested in athletics. Ditto for women in science, to which they simply don't gravitate. The result of this nonsense, if they get that far, will be fewer men in science, and the degradation of our scientific capabilities.

I know it makes dumb rednecks feel less superior, but perhaps folks should look at the percentage of female medical students.....

Last time I heard, that is science...well, at least on the coasts it is. You might be doing some witch doctor action elsewhere.

Yawn..............most guys who feel inadequate are happy just getting a big motorcycle. Only a small subset actually get pleasure from posting hateful drivel on bulletin boards.

Heck, we could predict EVERY title of every thread here just by the usual hate drivel that occurs on one El Rushbo show....so what is the point?

Makes me wonder how many guys here are married and have daughters? Oh, I have two. One of them has dual degrees in engineering and law...oh, she was only in the 96th percentile in the LSAT.......so once again, those Nazi women must have been given special privileges, right?

She also kicks most guys butts on the snowboard and anything else she tries....so please, guys, don't feel too inadequate.

I do find it funny that after you have already pissed off 1/2 the population, you attempt to piss off 1/2 of the 1/2 that is left........classic.

C'mon, surprise me. Come up with just ONE bit of either relevant or interesting conversation that isn't a talking point.

Obviously, you listen to Limbaugh more than I do, since I don't listen at all.

But let's posit that there are all these women in so many of these position, which I think we can agree is the case. Then where's the lack of opportunity that requires government intervention? Is there some nationwide conspiracy to keep women out of science programs? Are they denied entrance due to gender? Or is it just hate drivel to raise such questions?

Uh......in my old town they floated a million dollar plus bond (small town) to build better fields for the guys. This was a LOT of money.....of course, since then the town has gone almost broke because they are also helping keep the fields up.

I'm sure you are protesting that the taxpayers are having to pay for all those football lights at night games in texas.....maybe I'm wrong, maybe you are!

But I did stand before the town council and asked them:
"Which sports do you bless? Why should hockey parents have to pay many hundreds of dollars per year, or gymnast parents or BMX parents, while you have decided to bless the football and baseball players with lights and million dollar fields?".

So, your answer is simple. If it were NOT for that type of thing TIMES ONE THOUSAND AND MORE, then there would be absolutely no reason for the government to attempt to legislate fairness. BUT, because politicians are guys (mostly), and because guys are bigger and louder at most council meetings, and because guys (some) push their substantial weight around at great cost to the taxpayers, then things may have to be done to give the fairer sex a fighting chance.

Other than the fact most jocks don't take science courses, what does sports opportunities have to do with science opportunities? Or, is simply because there aren't X number of women taking science courses, it can only be, due to discrimination?

Heck, we're doing a bang-up job in terms of doing away with science even without making more opportunities for women....

Yep, we're doing a heck of a job, Brownie........

But now that we got rid of that dummy, and are opening up stem cell and actually basing our science on "science" - we may have a chance to catch up.

I honestly wasn't aware that sailors were so closed minded. Actually, based on PM's I received, they are not. Most just figure it is ridiculous to spend time debating such far-out points of view.

I'm starting to agree. Throwing fuel on the fire may not be the best course of action.
