The government makes up new laws all the time.....so that is nothing new. If you want to start a new Civil War over it, go ahead - be my guest. The North will win again.
As to the founders, oh - they most definitely made laws against sedition and insurrection....almost from Day One.
The Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798
"the Sedition Act, passed on July 14 declared that any treasonable activity, including the publication of "any false, scandalous and malicious writing," was a high misdemeanor, punishable by fine and imprisonment."
Other such acts were passed afterward, some rescinded, some amended, etc.
In WWI, a particularly heavy one was put into place. Just saying a few things could get you arrested.
Nothing much has changed. Get back to me after the first real arrests and prosecutions you don't agree with and we will discuss the nuances.

Actually, I think Bush and the GOP stripped out the stuff that would have covered right wingnuts, but it was reinstated by the "do nothing" Dems Congress.

Maybe someone can read further and translate...sort of complicated, but Bush definitely changed it from:
insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy
to:
natural disaster, epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or incident, or other condition
there must be a reason he removed a lot of the text - but a moot point now, since his thing was overturned.

One of the more dangerous activities of some anti-logging groups is "spiking" - large nails driven into trees. Makes a mess of the chain saw and the operator.

We ( as in the US ) have more to fear from the Domestic Terrorist groups like ELF,ALF,Earth first, Deep Ecology people than we do from conservatives & Military Vets

While I agree with you Jim (we've had several housing developments burned around here the past few years by ELF) that Timothy McVeigh fellow had a beef with the guvmint and killed a lot of Americans to make some sort of point and I think he was categorized as a right wing extremist. Extremists are a problem whether right or left when they are willing to put others at risk to make a point.
