The exhaling of carbon dioxide thing is funny. Growing a tomato and eating it to give energy to your body which will cause exhaust of carbon dioxide is not the same as digging up a box of coal and burning it. A case of using a stored non damaging energy source and adding it to the atmosphere.

And if sex is a polution under the EPA guidelines, then I hope that this year my sexual carbon footprint is the size of a T-rex footprint.

Stomp.

Buldings in my town are now being built to LEEDS standards. I am no expert on LEEDS, but yes am familar. Its a green building code where you gat a ranking score. The lower the score the better in terms of "green" or energy efficiency.

The people who own the forests and grass lands in this country get absolutely NOTTA under carbon credits even though their trees and grasses are responsible for most of the filtering of carbon on the continent. If you really want to create a carbon currency, why not make it fair to rural people who really do contribute to the environmental movement in ways no SUV driving urban person EVER will ?

Too bad we can't make our trees like hybrid electric or something, or make them stop burning coal, or put a solar panel on it or something.

(I wouldn't actually be in favor of it even if it did benefit me, I was just making a point ...)

I like the hundreds of trees on my 2.5 acres. I like shade. I would like them to be worth something else though - cash. Now all I can do is chop them down for cash and then spend the cash on higher A/C bills. Dang!!! Vicious circle.

I would like the govt to step in and help me help the planet. Cash for my O2. Sounds good to me. Even if it is only credit, can I use it to buy gas?

Tax thought for the day - A penny saved is like 1.8 pennies earned (depending on your tax bracket)

It was 1.8, now we have deflation and your penny buys more, so it is down to 1.5

Let me quote the Golden Boy - and those who are teabagging would be wise to listen:
"In most cases, things are neither as BAD as them seem, nor as GOOD as they seem".

I think that is an intelligent summation of our current economic situation.

Another way of looking at it would require a GW quote "We're seeing a rough patch"........although here in New England, we have rough patches....but then some roads that are more potholes than actual paving! But I've seen worse roads in WV and TN where a lot of them are dirt. I think GW meant that we have hit a dirt road during the muddy season.

Metaphors galore, at your service.

camaraderie is a jewel in the rough camaraderie is a jewel in the rough camaraderie is a jewel in the rough
The key words are "in most cases". This AIN'T most cases...it ain't even half over yet...in fact...it may never be over in terms of getting back to the standard of living we once enjoyed.

Now we are going to bail-out Chrysler (by giving them billions; and covering their debt in Chapter 11); then GIFT the remaining VIABLE company to the Italians!! OUTRAGEOUS!!!! We get to make extra car payments to Italy (even if you don't own a car) on your US Taxes! THANKS OBAMA! YOU ARE OUR SAVIOR!!
