Waiting with bated breath

One can only long wistfully for the new model line-up that will be forthcoming from our Government Motors. With a 50% stake in GM, decisions will now come from Washington rather than Detroit, and with unlimited tax dollars, the making of profitable and popular SUV's and Pickups will no longer be necessary.

Just imagine the possible "incentives" to buy a new GM vehicle. A night in the Lincoln Bedroom perhaps? Maybe a photo op with Bo? The possiblities are endless.

I'm sure you can still get a heck of a deal on one of those "profitable" SUVs.....lots of them on the lot, and a used one is almost worthless.

Nice pickups around too. But we might have to wait a couple more months until people forget about the high gas prices of last year...and until their stock portfolio looks better. Then they might be back in the marketplace. Or, maybe not (I say the later).

I saw a review of the new Ford F-150 yesterday. It starts at about 24K. It made me wonder who is buying them - because a decently outfitted one is way over 30K. Maybe people are getting smarter and thinking they can just buy a Subaru like I have (21K), and rent or buy a nice little trailer to haul stuff.

There comes a time when a shrinking GDP is a good thing....in the long run.

Ya see a lot of Subaru's at jobsites, farms, ranches, boat ramp parking lots, city maintenance parking lots .............

And they'd certainly make a better security vehicle for the endless Presidential motorcades than a Suburban.

Lord knows, people are too stupid for buying what suits their needs, instead of what they should.

jrd22 will become famous soon enough
I heard that one of the first changes will be to rename the Oldsmobile the Obamamobile. They will be subsidized and those with incomes of less than $40K/year will receive and $8K rebate, and for every one sold the income tax rate on those making over $40K/year will go up .1%. Could just be a rumor though.

I do see a possible investment opportunity on the horizon......

If Gm ends up continuing - and they bring in some people who actually know how to manage and plan and build stuff for the future....like the Google Folks...and then if and when it goes private again, it might be a heck of an investment.

As to trucks and vehicles...a pretty simple "truth" is that if you are not using a truck or other vehicle for the intended use (filling up a dump truck, etc.) almost every day, you may not need it. When everyone else was buying SUVs, we made do with a stripped minivan with roll-up windows - which could seat our family, haul anything we wanted...and even trailer a boat (a 15Ft Whaler in this case). Sure, it was "uncool", but my bank account became much bigger...and that is really cool.

Hopefully the slate will get wiped mostly clean and things will be able to move forward. Ideally, it would never have happened...GM would have planned and placed their bets correctly, gas would not have hit $4 a gallon and we would not be in a depression. But that is water over the dam.

I'm sure even Big O would get a chuckle out of an Obamamobile. Of course, due to his ancestry it will have to be a hybrid.....
