No, I don't think it depends on a measuring stick.

When goals are set - 100's of them, and none met. When the entire case and premises are either false or inflated. When the mission is NOT accomplished. When you spend 50x what you said, and end up killing, wounding and displacing 100X or more as you figured -and when the time period is longer than WWII with no real clear finish in sight....that is total failure. There really is no other way to look at it.
That's because you either won't, or can't look at it in at least one other way. We found out whether or not Sadam was hiding weapons of mass destruction. We removed a dictator from power who was a proven threat to his neighbors. We fought people who want to destroy us on soil other than our own and we may get a democracy to boot.

From Iraq War 6 Years Later: Success But No 'Victory' - Presidential Politics | Political News - FOXNews.com

Quote:
President Obama himself congratulated American troops at Camp Lejeune on Feb. 27, saying they had achieved their central objectives: removing the Hussein regime and enabling the formation of a sovereign government in Baghdad.
Quote:
A USA Today/Gallup poll taken March 18 finds 51 percent of Americans give a positive assessment of the Iraq war, up from 28 percent in January 2007. And 64 percent now believe the United States can win the war,

Such opinions lag behind the actual performance on the ground in Iraq. Senior U.S. officials say the Iraqi government has quietly met 17 of 18 political, economic, and security benchmarks set for it more than two years ago.
Now, if I add to that opinion that there is no other way to look at it, I'd be a closed minded person, because even a regular Joe like me knows there are other ways of looking at issues.

As a Democrat I would have thought that you would be displeased about some things. The President has not made good on a number of issues he campaigned on and apparently has no intention of it either, something I knew he wouldn't do before most Democrats and Republicans did, including the promise to get out of Iraq. Tonight in his news conference he was confronted with his commitment to sign the choice bill and he stepped away from that, and that isn't the only thing he's stepped away from, there are plenty of other things. Doesn't that bother you ? There are definitely Democrats out there who are bothered by it if you aren't.

an Associated Press-GfK poll shows that 48 percent of Americans believe the United States is headed in the right direction —
Here on this planet, that means 52 percent believe it's headed in the wrong direction and this is a number that's on the rise, though it's not all that amazing, most figured that sooner or later people would wake up, roll over and scream WHO THE **** AM I SPEEPING WITH and HOW THE HELL DID I GET HERE; then there are those who just take another drink and continue the fantasy

So far, I'm only pleased with what he hasn't done, or at least hasn't done yet. Considering what he wants to do, that may be the only way I'll find any joy in this President.

While he has stated some goals I can agree with, his methods to achieve them are not to my liking.

All the first 100 days can give us, is an indication of what a President's agenda and priorities are. So what can we glean about this one?

First of all, (though many of us said this from the start) we know he believes tax dollars and government intervention are the only solutions to any problem. We also know, that cost is no object to him.

We also know that when he says "I don't want to ..... " that means he is going to anyway.

We know his "vision of the future" is going back to the past. As he revives every thwarted liberal idea of the past 30 years.

We know that when he speaks of transparency, it only applys to what he wants us to know.

So, at this point, all in all, if you believe in activist government that intrudes in every aspect of daily life, then you should be quite pleased so far.

you must have skipped over the part of the post where I mentioned I was against many, if not most, of the policies. But that would be true with any President.....at least to me, it would.

I can't speak for republicans, but I can say that those of us in the middle are realistic. At 55 years old...if you think I am dumb enough to think that ANY President can accomplish instant miracles....well, then you either must not be as old as I am, or a true believer.

Realistic = looking at the options and picking the best available one.

In the scheme of people who are in politics who COULD rise to the level of President of the United States.....I would put him in the top 10%.

If I were foolish enough to think he was going to go lockstep into my grand idea of Utopianism or Perfection, I probably shouldn't be voting.

As the grand one so declared himself in a metaphor I often use for other things (like life, in general)....."The ship of states turns slowly".

I am not pleased as a Democrat. I am pleased as a human being. And I definitely would not be pleased if I looked closely at every compromise and delayed action. But, then again, most people would not enjoy watching sausage or scrapple (know what that is?) being made, but they love the end results.

Hopefully that makes it clearer. I have my own POV but would NEVER be foolish enough to think that I have any more than one out of a couple hundred million which influence our government...and that is probably a good thing!
