I for one am glad to have him as our president, and I support him as such.
If McCain had won I would have been disappointed but would have supported him as well.
Call me old fashioned.

As with every President since I was mature enough to think critically, this one will receive my support in direct proportion to which he earns it. Of the 7, now 8, occupants of that office during that time, none has received my unqualified 100% support. Except, when they are acting in the interest of the country in opposition to any outside threat. My unqualified support only lies in the Office, not the Occupant. There is a difference.

Those are good numbers - 69% think he is doing as good or better than they expected. AND, as with all polls, there are some problems....
For instance, the 31% who say he is doing worse than expected...well, you guessed it, that is the same exact percentage of people who consider themselves Republicans and....no matter what.....would not say he was doing better than expected, because they hate his guts (generally speaking, here)....
There is definitely a big difference, IMHO, of having a thinking man in the White House who measures his words and actions. For instance, today he said he was NOT a Miracle worker..and that he was pleased, but NOT SATISFIED with what has been accomplished.
He also uses uniting language - I heard a sound bite "today is my 100th day as YOUR President"......when I heard it I thought that, if that was was GW, he would have said "today is my 100th day as President" or "as the President".
I like those little touches because I think that the man honestly thinks of himself as that - our OUR President, not THE President (or decider, etc.).....and that is a bit of humility which goes a long way.
He has already said clearly many times - vote him out if you don't like the job he does over the next couple of years. Again, that is different than GW who, when he won re-election bragged about his mandate and political capital and how he was going to USE them...cash his chips in, so to speak.
In short, he is not perfect. But I have seen him learn, mature and grow already in the year of campaigning, and I expect that he is intelligent and caring enough to learn and perform with the country in mind.
Not to say we won't have big problems - or that things couldn't happen. And, I completely disagree with many of his policies...on the wars, for instance, where he runs the risk of becoming like LBJ (he didn't start the war, but continuing it too long end up giving him ownership).
Make no mistake about it - the forces around him are ultra-powerful. The military-industrial and the medical/insurance cabals together with the oil companies and other industry giants...control a LOT.
A little story which relates a bit - my wife got elected to political office - in a landslide - and the FIRST thing the town manager did was send her a multi-page document which listed all the things she could not do! In other words, the message was "in case you think you have power - read this first - we'll nail your ass to the wall if you so much as try to change things".
I think it is the same - times 1000 - in our Federal Government.

I agree, although that is not so readily apparent when the teleprompter goes out, then I start having Bush flashbacks.

He also uses a lot of devisive language but when there are clear lines drawn on issues, you're not going to please every body.

Isn't perception interesting?
Those are great poll numbers.
But it seems like the poster thinks they are poor.
I figure there are a hardcore 30% on each side of the aisle, and about 40% of people are somewhat in the middle or independent.
If you look at those numbers that way, they look great. Let me give the executive summary:
57% of people give him a C or better, 75% say he passes and moves onto the next grade.
69% say he is doing better or as well as expected.
55% think he had brought some change or a lot of change to DC.
And, don't discount popularity - in the WSJ poll yesterday:
"Perhaps most significantly, Americans so far find him to be likeable. More than 80 percent in the poll say they personally like Obama, even if they don’t agree with all of his policies. And respondents give him high scores on his personality, demeanor and leadership qualities."
I don't think anyone could expect better. If Mac was Prez I really doubt we would see numbers like that.

Interesting observation or spin, the way I see it, of those who think he's doing average or better, and those who think he's doing average or worse, the seperation is 1%, either way those that think he's doing a good job doesn't total 69%, more like 44 with 13 saying he's average

Again interesting comment, I'm not a Rep, nor could you label me a Conservative but I do fall into the 45% who got what I expected, although I guess Satan would have been worse
As far as what poll is being quoted ??, it doesn't really matter, it came off the home page of a popular ISP

Nutt'n wrong with letter grades, they're plain and simple, hell, I sure with they added citizenship to the report card, that too would be below average letter grade
