There was a shoking photo posted of an ugly old lady baking swatika cookies.
It was the worst thing I've seen at Sailnet. That person is still here.

In the US the limits are set at encouraging illegal activity. You can't do that. All else is protected. But, hostile postings can be handled by asking them to calm down and perhaps edit their own junk. Or maybe just deleted a single post without go so far as to ban and then attack the person who is banned when they are ubable to rteply. I think all will pileon now that cp is gone.

as long as the speech doesn't start with "your mamma...." I can press the "next" button or the "ignore" button. Frankly, I quit reading CCP's stuff a week or so ago, so I don't know how bad it got to get banned.

Captain Wombat did exactly the right thing. This isn't a forum where you can say absolutely anything you want, and it doesn't pretend to be. I'm asked all the time to tone down my posts, and I do so because I understand that I can't say absolutely anything I want. I doubt that Captain Wombat and Sailnet itself wants to distinguish itself as a forum upon which truly vicious flakes like CCP can promote themselves. If I were Jewish, I'd be asking that the slander and the slanderer be removed.

Well done, Captain Wombat.

Do people misunderstand the constitution - or are they just not aware of what that term "Free Speech" means? It must be one or the other. Read carefully:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. "

The Free Speech thing is something that CONGRESS ONLY shall make no law about....and is ended with the ideal being that Free Speech allows us to organize and petition the government.

It has absolutely NOTHING to do with anything else! No...you don't have free speech in your office, in the supermarket, in this forum or just about anywhere else.

That stuff from CCP is so far above and beyond anything like Free Speech that it amazes me that it is discussed using that term. To the extent that Sailnet allows stuff like that, it reflects on the site, the moderators, the members and the owners.

Once again, where do folks get the idea that free speech means you can tell someone that they are ugly and not get punched?

Correct me if I am wrong but would not have CCP's posts been more appropriate at a KKK website?
I couldn't bring myself to read too much.
Sailnet does not want Tartan or the JDL suing them.
Well done poor Wombat.

From someone who remembers where it went last time. Even though I haven't seen what was writen, I'd say the ban was a wise move. On the freedom of speach issue, we've been over this before, sailnet is not public property, it's a private organization, y'all can ban anyone you want for whatever reason and if I disagree with you, I'll move on.

Back to CCP, now your going to have to look for false identities, Lo tech, if you hadn't been around for a year I would suspect you for one of those. The last time we heard from CCP, it was the mother of all drag out knock down fight. Mutiple identities were created by a few people, so they could look as a whole bunch of members were mad and gang up on other members. Don't forget the bad reps that flew around, part of the reason y'all changed that system as well.

If you want I can go find the main thread as well as the other thread this all played out in. I can't remember all the names involved but there was plenty.

I am all for free speech. It makes it easier to identify who the assholes are. But sailnet is a community and even though some of the people here disagree with me completely on almost everything most of us manage to maintain a minimum level of respect. When somebody cant even do that (and the bar is pretty low folks) there is no reason to put up with them once they have made it clear who they are. It isnt even as if this person had something useful to say about sailing ... This IS SAILnet after all
