Here comes Communism! Voice-voted into House Resolution 1388, Obama’s new civil service bill which passed the House Friday and is headed to ...the Senate tomorrow, is THIS gem…added by California’s Rep. George Miller (D). Amendment 49: No protesting or teaching Sunday School while you’re “volunteering” as a brownshirt!!! Doesn’t look like faith-based groups will be receiving any help from the Obamacorps either. You know the drill. Bury your Senators with emails and calls.

Gimme a break!

I read through the bill. what's wrong with restricting AmeriCorps volunteers from pushing their personal agenda, be it political or religious views? You're really reaching here to put a religious right spin on an otherwise sound piece of legislation. A lot of funding for education and volunteer rights are in this bill. You should be glad, it also prohibits abortion advocacy groups from getting AmeriCorps money.

Section 1304 -
Prohibits AmeriCorps participants from engaging in specified political, business, union, and religious activities or displacing employed workers or other volunteers.
Prohibits labor, for-profit, abortion advocacy, and certain political organizations from receiving AmeriCorps funding. Bars the participation of organizations that have been indicted for voter fraud

Snider...as I read the language of the bill it controls personal behavior both ON and OFF the job. I can certainly agree while on the job but restricting my rights as an individual citizen when off the job does not sit well with me. Do you have a different interpertation of the language than I do?

BTW...I agree that it applies to advocacy groups and individual on both liberal and conservative agendas.

I didn't get that.

I'll look again I didn't see anywhere restricting behavior while you weren't volunteering. Thats a tough area. I agree it shouldn't restrict personal activity while you are not connected to volunteer groups, but you shouldn't be able to use national organizations to push your beliefs on others.

Thats the problem with bureaucracy!

‘(a) Prohibited Activities- An approved national service position under this subtitle may not be used for the following activities:

I went back and read the actual bill instead of a summary and I didn't see where it singled out anyone while not "on the job".
Thats the problem with most bills, it leaves room for "interpretation".

Anyway I don' see how you could get that from the wording used.

I'm not liberal or conservative but try to follow a common sense approach.

Easy for you to say.
While some things may seem to make sense to certain
(ahem) people...
I read some of the bill.

I can't help but wonder
If the people really knew
what you lawmakers are really doing up there..
I wonder how far you'd get...
slip it in there,
keep the people too busy to notice...
slide this right in here...

hmmmmm.........
Of the people,
by the people,
for the people?

I will have to look and see
who pays for the abortions again.
I heard bloody Obama
the American Hater
is using American tax dollars to fund
killing babies around the world.

He is also for Euthansia!!
Good luck Baby Boomers!

serve America act
how sweet the sound.

I noticed it did not say what kind of activities would be mandatory.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
That really leaves a lot to be desired.
Sorry B_______
Souled us out!!

Actually I think the only thing that should be allowed on tv is c-span.
that way everyone can have a good dose of the
"Capital Hill Verbage"
(They should cry like I do, I cried so hard for about a yr I couldn't even wear make-up. That's why I couldn't listen anymore)
as pertains to them as human beings and citizens of this country.
The newspapers should consist of the first section;
nothing but the verbage and text's of the house and senate reps.

Who are they reppin'??
That's interesting.
