Thanks Erps. So how about the groups we see on the news (and on TV shows) who are like militia and anti government. Are they legal groups or is that a state by state thing?

These typically are not government affiliated militias, like the state national guard units. They are legal unless they start committing crimes. I would expect that the government keeps a close eye on some of these groups. We recently had a big news event when one of these militia groups got into trouble trying to fund their operation. One gal involved was from our neighboring county.

Thanks. The only things reported are newsworthy or sensational journalism so we dont get the real picture. That would be same everywhere. Good luck with it all.

When it just gets too much, I get out on the boat - away from the crap of everyday living - no people = no dramas.

So, all the best
Cheers

I guess it comes down to this, if I wanted to give away everything that I've worked very hard for and putting in over 20 years of service to our country to people who really don't seam to want to work to obtain a better life and just stay on the wellfare roll call, then I guess I am a Conservative. If you want to make a better life for yourself then don't stand there with your hands out for a free ride, go out a get some schooling and upgrade your verbil skills and get that job to where you can earn a better living on your one dime and not mine.

You're argument might make sense IF all your taxes went to social assistance programs. Obviously this is not the case but it is easier to kick poor people than too admit that as a conservative the system needs to be reformed not bombed.

You talk about putting in over 20 years of service, well you can belly up to the bar and pay your share for Military spending, Homeland Security spending, Roads, Libraries, Medicare... Oh and the federal interest on the national debt.

You cannot pick and choose which taxes you want to pay and which ones you do not want to pay. I agree that there are people that need to be cut loose to fend for themselves because they live off the system. There are others out there that need a hand. My mother was a single parent and worked 50 hours a week in a nursing home and without social assistance her, my sister and I would have been on the street. She couldn't afford to upgrade her skills because after the bills were paid there was nothing left for her. She didn't smoke or drink or play the lottery so there were on sin taxes to trim. She received no support payments from her ex-husband, it would have been easier to get blood from a stone. I learned the value of a dollar, worked my way to a BA in business without a student loan and now in my early thirties I feel financially secure and contribute to society. That wouldn't have happened if I spent my youth on the street.

If you're argument is that welfare needs reform and the tax system in general has issues that need to be addressed then I couldn't agree more. If however your argument is that you don't like people taxing advantage of the system so you don't want to pay any taxes, well grow up.

For me Conservatism is obeying a moral code higher then what man wants to make it for himself..We can not improve on God's innate desire to see us prosper and live in peace and also live a healthy and content and rich life.

Man twists those law to his own whims from both sides of the isle ...to the point I have almost stopped calling myself a Republican or wanting to saddle up to the watered down political new age Conservatism their pandering...No man is able to consistently choose the right path or consistently make the right choice with out consulting a more knowledgeable source...For our moral code that source is God...Liberals vehemently oppose that concept more often then so called self proclaimed conservatives..Opposing it doesn't negate the fact that it is still the truth...All of us need to "Grow Up" myself included...That's Conservatism.

Love one another as yourself and love God's direction for your life...Lead no one into temptation as to cause him to stumble and fall if your so inclined to be in sin yourself..That's Conservatism's...everything else is a counterfeit...Doesn't mean you cant be and individual or have what you think is a fun sin filled life if you choose to...Just means you cant teach it as a acceptable and healthy life contrary to what a higher law says it is not...That's true conservatism...

Your rights do not raise above the one standing to your left or the one standing to the right..He is equally yoked to those higher moral laws as you are...if you choose not to obey them on your own it is your given free will just be still about it and not rally around them in defiant power hungry fervor claiming them as equal or acceptable and justified ways of living...they are not...That's Conservatism.

The poor and the sick will always be with us..we are commanded to help them and provide for them..the lazy and the unskilled are to be taught how to fish as to provide for there own needs not given one each day..That's conservatism.

Religion has nothing for nor no place in Conservatism...Choosing the right God to serve and obey has everything to do with the word.

There is a right and there is a wrong...we as men can not change that no mater what law we invent saying contrary.

Just wait and see and take a look at all of the various states that are looking into all the back door, unlawfull items and scamming that ACORN has been accused of, I'll bet there's a lot more fire where this smoke is coming from.
I wonder how much of our money has been put into there pockets over the years, and these ACORN people are the people who are telling eveyone that all there doing is helping the people who need help.

I guess we'll have to wait and see how it all turns out in the long run.
