The Fair Tax, for better or worse?

hey guys, as a lot of you know, i'm not very politically savvy. but i've done a lot of research on h.r. 25, read a lot of books and have come to a conclusion that this would be a lifesaver for this country. what do y'all think?.....

here's a link to the bill introduced by john linder (r.) georgia:

This bill has appeared now for 6 consecutive years, the bottom line is it has never gotten a read, will never get out of committee and that's the way it is.

Why you ask?

Too many people make a living off our convoluted tax system and it's loop holes. Taxation is not about fair, it's about money.

fair tax would be great, it would make owing a business competitive with other countries. it would basicly do away with under the table workers, to include drug dealers and hookers. heck they want to tax drugs this is a way to do it.

based on all of the above it will never happen

Make it 5% and requiring a 60% vote of the people to raise it and Id go for it..other wise I'll keep my loop holes.

Fair tax is a pipe dream, there is no 'Fair' and to think that a government crawling with lobbyist will ever be fair to the people is a folly to say the least.

I'm not sure it really matters. If the govt is taking 1/3 or 1/2 of your money now don't you think they would find a way to take the same amount under any system??? Seems to me that too much spending is the problem. Control the spending and everything else falls into place.

I think that the tax system is really backwards. The marginal tax rate for the highest income bracket has been reduced something like 55% over the last 50 years. Yet the poor people keep getting nickel and dimed to death, paying tax on cars when they buy, and when they sell, and each year, and in the gas. Then paying tax on cigarettes to an absurd level. Renting their single family homes from the government at an absurd property tax rate.
The tax system is so backwards it is stupid. People who make 10 million a year SHOULD be taxed at 90%, because they will still have a surplus of money after that! People who don't make enough to own a trailerable boat, should not be taxed this way and that way. Alas, we live in a fascist country, so the rich get their way with their illusory power and lobbyists. It is so stupid.

How about 99% tax rate for the super rich? Or how about 99.9% tax rate? How much are you willing to take from other people to reduce your own payment before you start feeling uncomfortable about it?

Apparently all of it Ray.. ...What this general type of mentality do not get is it also kills All of the incentive to do anything but lay in bed and go out once per month to the mail box for my free money as well..I Might as well let this attitude type start paying me.

I don't get it ..I honesty don't get it at all..

tager:
Our tax system has always been set up to reward producers ..start a business and start producing something and benefiting other people by putting them to work and guess what..Uncle Sam has legal options for you to reduce your tax burden..You call those loop holes so I jokingly do as well..but they are legal write offs ..no loop hole about them...I'll keep voting to keep them thank you very much.

Here's some tax facts...
top 1% pay 39% of federal income taxes(in 1980 the top 1% only paid 19%)
top 50% pay 97% of federal income taxes

simple math shows the bottom 50% only pay 3% of federal taxes.

The poor in our country aren't paying their fair share
