Terror Trials in NY

I thought I was the only person worried about the legality of these trials. Last night on the news a former judge and DA echoed my concerns. As soon as these defendants arrive in the US, I expect their lawyers to make a motion to dismiss, based on their right to speedy trial, and their right not to testify against themselves. And I think any honest judge will grant those motions. You simply cannot hold someone for years, deny them a lawyer, dunk them in water, then bring them to trial in NY.

Star, this is a train wreck in the making. I notice that you are from Long Island, I am from Westchester. We are potential jurors in this case.

This has far more to do about the current Administration putting the former Administration on trail then it does seeking Justice for the American people.

This is a show trial and it highlights the extreme incompetence of the Obama Admin; You don't hold trials against pow's, enemy combatants, known terrorist or these murdering MFer's in civilian court in a time of war

All this is going to do is invite every islamic fanatic here in the US to plan and execute a statement of faith to the AQ

Obama needs to go before he gets more innocent people killed

The defendants were never read their Miranda rights.

Grounds for dismissal?

Knot, I have been taking back and forth with my retired lawyer buddy about this very subject. These guys are being held as pow's (detainees). Once they are "arrested" then they need to read Miranda rights. As far as we know right now they have not been arrested.

The difference between being held as a Pow or as a criminal defendant. Pow's are held until a war is over, criminal defendants have a right to a speedy trial.

Well, I hope someone arrests them sometime soon. At least before they put them on trial.

amazing how little faith conservatives have in the US system of democracy, courts, and the rule of law.

Buck up fellows!! Here in the USA we actually do a pretty good job bringing bad guys to justice! Our system has worked well for a couple of centuries now and the bad guys will have to do a hell of lot better than THESE jokers to bring us down.

Us citizens are giving up our rights little by little and the government is slowly taking up the slack.
Like I said before, I love my country however I fear my government.
