National Security and Health Care - Two Very Different Approaches
It's interesting to note the difference in approach to these two issues by Obama and the Dem leadership.
On National Security they want to dot every I, cross every T, even if it has a negative impact on our security. It seems that the only areas where they will do "whatever it takes" are their own agendas. Then, the rule of law becomes at best, secondary, not paramount.
It takes little imagination to hear the howls of protest that would be bellowing forth from the MSM were the current health care tactics being proposed by Republicans.
It would be one thing, if Obamacare could show any measure of public support, to try to ram it through with the legislative chicanery that is being considered. To do so on an issue where opposition has continued to grow to the point of almost 3-1 against it, isn't about courage, it's about arrogance.

The United States & Turkey are the only two modern Industrial countries on Earth who dont have a national health care system.
(the US health care system is most expensive)
Most coutrys can afford thier National Health Care system because they dont have the massive National Security Defense Costs.
Many of these countrys with Health Care Ironically have US military bases on thier land. We provide thier securtiy, allowing them to put thier money into Health Care.
I was watching C-Span. Congress was looking for a way to cut spending. Of course a few congressman questioned why we are spending so much on defense. We have the Triad system of deterring the Russians. (Subs, missles, bombers)
Can the Pentagon give up one of these deterrents.?
Can the Pentagon close some of its foreign bases.?
Can the Pentagon ask foreigners to help pay for the war on terror?
Both democrat & republicans defended the pentagon budget. We need these programs to keep American Jobs.
Moral of the Story..The USA is a wealthy nation. We just have to decide where to spend our money. Guns or butter.
May the best Lobbyist get thier programs and taxdollars.

Actually, most countries can't afford their health care systems. Even with the US providing their military umbrella.
A review of the news over the past year would show most European countries scrambling to find money to pay for health care.
The Constitution clearly states "provide for the general defense". It says nothing about providing health care.

Wonder how much money we wasted looking for weapons of Mass destruction under the last administration. Now lets talk about waste.
PB your railings against Obama are par for the course and very representative of the people you want elected. Its getting old. Its time to realize the American people spoke in the last election. Musinings about this vocal minority representing what Americans want right now are just that. Until they speak again why not propose POSITIVE programs and solutions instead of negative whining.
Work for change. Work within your party to propose a centrist candidate that most of us could vote for. In fact tell us, who represents your views best so we can start to analyze and listen to their message. Is it Rush, Is it Sarah, is it Kantor, Is is Beoner, Is it Paulenty?...tell us who is it. Surely there is someone you back or like. Surley there is someone who you would contribute your time and energy working for. Tell us....who is it?

Yes, the American people spoke in the last election, and have shown, in subsequent elections, most particularly in MA, that they aren't getting what they voted for. You can spin it any way you want, but a Republican won Ted Kennedy's vacant seat by running against Kenndey's most passionate cause.
I don't have a "party", unless it's the Tea Party. The GOP threw away my support when they became Dem lite after the 2000 elections. The one's left that I find common ground with are those such as Paul Ryan, Tom Coburn, Mitch Daniels (who surprised me as Governor of IN),and Mike Pence. I applaud Chris Christie in NJ for having the guts to stand up and tell his state they can't kick the can down the road any longer, and acting on it.
I'm not though, that interested in individuals. What I want to see is a party committed to stopping the growth of government. Not just talk, but taking the actions necessary to do something about it.
My time and energy are well spent here if I can make just one person stop and actually think about what is going on today, instead of reflexively bringing up Bush (ie: your first sentence).
As the thread title states, I'm not talking about the past, but about the present.

Perhaps in your haste to post, you missed this pertinent part ..... "It's why do we need". Last I knew, janitors were not political appointees, and, if the job is so necessary, why is it a political appointment in the first place?

Lets do away with The FDA...the Center for Disease Control...Medicare and Medicade...and the National Institute of Health. These are 4 of the 11 departments of HHS.
Let the old people die, let smallpox, diptheria, kill off the weakest....let the pill makers produce drugs which contain Thalidomide...Let the TV ads for cigarettes come back aimed at our youth.....bring back DDT...only the strongest will survive right...pure Darwinism...who cares about Cancer research...Heart research....Lets just throw it all away.
I agree that big government is not the answer for everything,,in fact it is usually the most inefficient way of doing things. So who protects us from Dow Chemical, EI Lilly, Anthem Blue Cross, hmmmm protect yourself huh. Every man for himself, Funny....that is NOT the American Way. The first word in the preamble is WE.
