You don't have to be a tree hugger to appreciate this amazing film

The video is strikingly beautiful. Well worth watching just for that.
But fair warning. If you are the type of person who never gives the environment a thought. Watching this will change that.

I'm a huge fan of the environment. If it weren't there, where would I put the plastic holders from my 6-pack of beer?

loooooong

The video is an hour and a half long. For those of you who don't want to spend the time here is the synopsis.

1. The earth was formed.
2. Humans came about.
3. Humans are destroying the earth.
4. Clean up your act or kiss your a** goodby.

For those of you who are like me and believe that we humans can't "destroy" the earth but could make it pretty uncomfortable to live here. Then don't waste your time with the video.

It's amazing to me Dwayne that after having just gone through the Gulf spill, there currently being a pretty nasty spill in china and the hunger and the poverty going on today, etc. etc., it's amazing that some people still don't see that there's a problem.

If you had only watched the video in it's entirety, you would have seen that it's really a rather hopeful message after all. And like I said, the footage is beautiful. I think he must have been flying an ultra-lite.

But the bottom line is this Dwayne. I really want as many people to watch this video and to consider the points that the video makes as is possible. I think that the video makes some pretty good points.
You disagree. I'm OK with that, but are you afraid that others can't make up their minds on their own?

I've been around here for awhile and there are those that might feel that I'm credible and there are those who might not. Those that know me and respect me might just choose to watch the video on my recommendation and get something from it.

Is there some reason that you don't want them to?

It's too late to be a pessimist.

I don't believe I said anything about not wanting people to watch the video. What I said is I don't believe that we humans have that much of an impact on the earth as a whole. Nature itself is amazingly flexible and has come thru events that we humans couldn't have come close to short of an all out nuclear war. Look at the huge crater in New Mexico. Look at the results of the several ice ages we have gone thru.

The recent oil spill in the Gulf was bad but mostly from an economic standpoint, not an environmental one. A year from now you will be hard pressed to find any environmental affects that are current and a year is but an extremely short period to the earth.

I did say that we could make conditions uncomfortable for ourselves if we didn't do anything to stop or limit what we do to our environment. But I don't believe we, as humans, can destroy the earth.

And by the way, what does this all have to do with sailing?

Uh, I believe that one of the central chemical players in the video is named 'water' along with carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen etc.
I took a geology course in kolledge where I learned about how the O2 content of our atmosphere blossomed millions of years ago because of photosynthetic algae. Water is also a unique element as in its solid state it is lighter then its liquid state which explains why ice floats in water; most solid compounds are heavier then their liquid couterpart. Even from a scientific standpoint this Earth is truly an amazing planet.
I was also in FL near Knotty a few weeks ago and there were no tar balls in the Gulf at Sarasota or in the Atlantic near West Palm. The water was beautiful but that does not mean that all the oil that was treated with 'dispersants' and otherwise submerged is not going to be a factor going forward. A small event in Earth's history, perhaps, but a big event in our small lifetimes.
Thanks for the link Knotty.

This posting doesn't belong on this forum. Sure, it discusses issues of great importance to some. It's not really sailing related. I could post a link to a video encouraging you to love Jesus, etc. And I could argue that it's sailing related.

But I won't.

I could post a link to an anti-drunk driving site. Anti rape. Anti child pornography...and argue that any of them are so important I just HAVE to share it with you poor fools who only talk about sailing.

But I won't.

To the OP....we know....we care....we care a lot....about a lot of things. But this place is for talking about sailing.

It's totally impossible for us humans to have an impact on the environment. The world is too big.
