Can a good Muslim be a good American?

I expect that you know few Muslims. I have had many Muslim students and a few of my acquaintances on the squash court are Muslims. A couple of female students wore head scarves, even though their mothers did not. Their families were highly supportive of their children getting education. That was especially true of Ismaili Muslim families who are thoroughly modern. BTW - none of them wish to kill me.

As to a previous comment. If being the follower of a pedophile polygynist is grounds for being unAmerican, then you have a problem with the most of the state of Utah as well as Glenn Beck and Milt Romney. Joseph Smith took 2 14-years olds as wives.

During a parent teacher interview one Mormon parent told me that his intellectually and athletically gifted twin daughters were not going to university; they were getting married and having children. "Education is wasted on a woman."

me? i'm just a callous old bastard.who's had to fight and claw for everything i've accomplished in my life and i don't believe the wealth i have accumulated over the years (which is little) should be taken by force and given to other individuals who have the same opportunity to do the same, but choose not to without my rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness being infringed upon. i do feel threatened by the islamic religion and i will react accordingly........

you are correct. i only know a few muslims, a hundred tops, mostly bosnians. and ya know what? they didn't say i should die for my religious beliefs either. they didn't force their wives to walk behind them. some of them said they weren't good muslims, though. but i really felt they would someday make good Americans........

and that's all i really care about jack. being a good American.......

but i'm not an expert. just a believer of the word which is Christ........

I am left of center but I am not a liberal, I am a social democrat.

The United States has been seen a beacon to the rest of the world. What does the plaque on the Statute of Liberty say? Do not let a group of Saudi Islamists change that. If you do, they have succeeded in they goals.

In Canada, many of the business folks who are sustaining our economy are Muslim. They are highly entrepreneurial.
