Government by the ‘experts’ - The Washington Post

Beyond the aspect of Obamacare, this is just another in a long line of "delegations" by Congress to avoid making unpopular decisions that they are supposed to make. From base closings to automatic pay raises to automatic SS colas (or the lack thereof).

From the George Will piece linked to in the OP:

Quote:
The essence of progressivism, and of the administrative state that is progressivism’s project, is this doctrine: Modern society is too complex for popular sovereignty, so government of, by and for supposedly disinterested experts must not perish from the earth.
They're right, in that "modern society is too complex for popular sovereignty". We've made it so by allowing ourselves to be hoarded into what amounts to a commune, in the name of an outlook on the human experience that contradicts freedom on the most profound and primary level.
