Old study John

Quote:
Those who watched Fox News almost daily were significantly more likely than those who never
watched it to believe that:
ƒ most economists estimate the stimulus caused job losses (12 points more likely)
ƒ most economists have estimated the health care law will worsen the deficit (31 points)
ƒ the economy is getting worse (26 points)
ƒ most scientists do not agree that climate change is occurring (30 points)
ƒ the stimulus legislation did not include any tax cuts (14 points)
ƒ their own income taxes have gone up (14 points)
ƒ the auto bailout only occurred under Obama (13 points)
ƒ when TARP came up for a vote most Republicans opposed it (12 points)
ƒ and that it is not clear that Obama was born in the United States (31 points)
These effects increased incrementally with increasing levels of exposure and all were statistically
significant. The effect was also not simply a function of partisan bias, as people who voted
Democratic and watched Fox News were also more likely to have such misinformation than those
who did not watch it--though by a lesser margin than those who voted Republican.

Not only that, jackdale, but the page states upfront that they don't classify the source as credible... except when it says what they want it to say (obviously). "Politifact is itself sometimes as full of **** as Daily Show Stewart", but we'll believe it this time because it says what we want it to.

The new study is (given Stewart's exact comments from the interview) obviously what was being referenced. Anyone that has read the report (I did to check his comments) and watched the interview would know that... but grabbing other people's (or a right-wing magazine's) opinion and presenting it without fact-checking is enough for some.

There are economists - Keynes & Friends - and there are economists - von Mises & Friends.

Whether you guys, or our anointed for that matter, like it or not, Americans know intuitively which group are the cheap power lusters and which are the actual students of economics.

(For the infected, the time-challenged, or the hopelessly Leftist amongst us, I recommend Economics in One Lesson. Silly title but a wonderful primer/refresher. Amazon.com: Economics in One Lesson: The Shortest and Surest Way to Understand Basic Economics -- Henry Hazlitt)

We all know how such studies are conducted.

Apparently, one of the recent ones had a professor asking Americans if MMGW was real or not. Anyone that said "No" was uninformed.

Ah, public pre-K thru Ph.D . . .

Allow me to correct this post. He meant to type ..."We all know how such studies , that I don't agree with, are conducted..."

There ya go RAGNAR

Where is that ignore button folks talk about ? Never mind...I found it.

RAGNAR definitely qualifies as a complete waste of bandwidth.

Yep, a year old is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out of date. Yet, over the time span covered by the 3 surveys cited, there was no significant change in the Fox numbers that could lead one to believe that in 2011, they somehow dropped off the cliff. But hey, much more scientific to take one survey over a consistent three.

Not really. We discussed this in December at last year. I remembered; others did not.
