And here in Carolina, they were jumping through all kinds of hoops to get more Fed money. Things that would never have been done otherwise.
The question, to me, is why are we sending all this money to DC, just to try to please them, so they'd send it back? Has education improved since the creation of the Department of Education on the Federal level? No, it has been in steady decline, even as dollars spent goes ever upwards. If the Dept of Education was a business, it would have gone bankrupt 20 years ago.
And it's not that I'm against public schools, though I think it's the least efficient way to educate, it's that primary funding should come first from the community they serve, then the county level, and lastly, on the state level. For what we spend on public education, you could have vouchers for everyone to attend the school of their choice, and have money left over.
There's thousands of private schools that manage to provide quality education, at a fraction of the price, who have far less resources as our public schools, yet we keep pouring money into the black hole of "public education".
