Aug 3rd can't promise SS checks will go out" More terror tactics against the mature?

Now that I'm among the growing number of baby boomers coming of age.. it's VERY unsettling. WTF???

I can't believe the insensitivity, the down right rudeness and push them aside, push them around attitude mature people receive in the USA. Yet in other societies and cultures the mature are care for and respected. Try it sometime, ask for a senior's discount if you don't look "old" OMG! would be easier to enter the pentagon!

Remember the pretty badly made movie "Logan's Run"? Can't help but wonder if some plan is evolving to eliminate mature people from society.

I can't think of anything that can better catch the attention of the tea-baggers than threatening their social security checks. Talk about a conflict of interests.

Come on now...

Does it really surprise you that Obama would use that tactic? The day before he said the American people really don't understand the debit issue and that only the professional politicians have the ability to comprehend the issue.

I wouldn't say it is a widespread anti senior citizen feeling. Just a Chicago thug trying to scare seniors because he's scared his big spending days may be coming to an end. People are finally waking up and the big spenders don't know what to do. That also applies to some Republicans as well.

Do you begrudge people the social security that they paid for all their lives, and that has been promised them by the government for the past 76 years? People relied on those promises in preparing for their retirement, and somehow it doesn't seem fair for the President to threaten to withhold what rightfully belongs to them.

And, to disenchant you of any notion of "conflict of interest," I'm certainly not rich, but I don't receive social security, and probably never will. Moreover, I'm no tea bagger, but I sure have a well developed sense of right and wrong, and threatening to withhold needed retirement checks from the elderly is wrong.

It makes me mad as hell that my son might not be able to look forward to a day when he can retire from the daily grind. You young folks are the ones who should be angry at the thought that you might have to work until the day you die.

I don't have time to confirm this, but I'm pretty sure that SS checks are financed independently of the budget. Nothing Congress, the Judiciary, the Administration, or all the alphabet agencies combined can do will stop those checks.

This is yet another scare tactic of yet another Humanities thug who's trying to impose his will by whatever means available -- on the "democracy" that put him in office.

Our society has in part created the situation many who are becoming seniors today are faced with. My parents bought and paid for their house. They both worked (20 & 40 years) and receive SS payments. My father has a military retirement. This all because they planned for their retirement years. They did this based on what they knew they had to do to survive in their later years. They did not live extravagantly or travel the world or run out and buy the latest gadget when it came on the market. In short they planed, saved and managed for the later years.

Much of today's society believes they are entitled. Entitled to be taken care of if everything falls apart. If they have an extreme medical situation arise. If they lose their job. And then they milk that entitlement for all it is worth and cry foul when it runs dry.

My parents taught me to take care of myself because no one else will or should. This is a lesson they learned from their parents and from the depression and they passed it on.

As for our society taking care of the seniors I would have to disagree with the OP as I see it vary different. And if you do a little research on the Internet, we compare well with other country's, in many cases even better. Most in our society today that go without do so for lack of knowledge more so than lack of resources. As for society it is not the responsibility for me to take care of your parents or you to take care of mine. It is a choice on the other hand and when left to that will more often than not be offered when the situation arises. I can think of a few instances on this site alone.

As to threats being made by our President and Pelosi ad Reid, it is pure political scare tactics and for that they should be ashamed. But then they are politicians and they have no shame.

I agree with your point of view, but i've paid into SS since the age of 16... I expect at least a refund!

Ever hear of the "Unified Budget", Rags? It's only been around for 40+ years.
