If the cover-up allegations are true (remember the story only "suggests" it is so), I would have to agree that the agency in question was really stupid. Several people would need to lose their jobs and/or face hefty charges. Regardless of the political flavour they happen to subscribe to.

A government official involved now plans on "taking the fifth".

The chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona is refusing to testify before Congress regarding Operation Fast and Furious, the federal gun-running scandal that sent U.S. weapons to Mexico.

Patrick J. Cunningham informed the House Oversight Committee late Thursday through his attorney that he will use the Fifth Amendment protection.

As we have said before, that does not mean guilt in regards to this issue or others. Even if you assume that one needs to be guilty in order to invoke the fifth (something that the Supreme Court has stated is not the case), he could be guilty of anything.

Honestly, I think something stinks and, like with alot of what went down during Bush's era, it was done without Obama's say so. Much as people from both sides like to bash the last/current President of the other party for issues - there are millions of decisions made without their knowledge or their consent. Bureaucracy has been working around the government of the day for centuries and will continue to do so long after we're gone (so long as we don't wipe ourselves out).
