Perry vs Romney

First of the bat, let me say I'm only loosely predicting the the republican primary is going to come down to Perry vs Romney. For all I know it could come down to Pawlenty vs Cain, but if I had to bet today, I would guess the former.

Second, I know I have no real control, but I would prefer Obama stays out of this thread unless it's pertinent to your point about the potential republican nominee. So things like "I wouldn't think perry would have a chance against Obama because his cutting of school funding and I think it's going to turn off a lot of republicans". Or "Romney care is to close to Obama care for most Republicans".

There will be other threads and plenty of time to compare the nominees to Obama, so if we can, lats leave this one for comparing the republican nominees with each other.

Third, I'm going to kick off by whining about Ron Paul being to old. I really like the guy. He did great in the republican debate. Unfortunately, when he's just standing around, you can see he already got the "old man shakes". Not to mention the history of representatives getting elected president is pretty sad.

But I really like his stances on the fed and foreign policy. Oh well, here's to another presidential election where I have to vote for my second favorite.

I've been lurking mostly. Other then reading this and that, there hasn't been that much I felt like responding to. Most of the political stuff has been "I hate Obama", well Bush was a so and so. Nothing to really discuss there.

Looks like Perry is expecting no problems in the finance department.

I have a problem with a Pol who is so vocal about his religion. In my experience, the more vocal and overt about their religion a person is, the LESS likely they are to live a Christian (or Jewish or Moslem etc.) life. I call them Front Row Kneelers - every Sunday, there they are up front, praying loudly, singing psalms loudly, putting showy contributions in the plate and come Monday morning, they are out screwing anybody for a buck, preaching intolerance against anyone they don't like, never forgiving any slight and so forth.

I'm not implying that Perry is like that but his vocal religiosity makes me very nervous.

Being from Texas, we know Perry pretty well. I always voted for him, mainly because the alternative always stunk more. Compared to Romney, the same thing will apply. I would vote for Perry over Romney. They have both done things that I disagree with, it's just that Perry has done less and he's not from Mass. Besides, he is slightly less creepy looking than Romney. Have you seen Romney in jeans? They both look like models for Ken dolls. Looks like once again I will be voting against someone, instead of for someone.

Sorry if my reasoning seems to be based more on looks than substance. Hey, isn't that how Obama got elected?

Don't know much about Perry, Romney seems to have a good business background, Newt has the experience and Ron Paul ??, I like him also, too bad he's unelectable

I see Romney as business ( politics) as usual...I hope he's not the nominee..
I liked many of the things Ron Paul and the Newt had to say...Michelle handled herself well, Santorum is a clown, Cain might be a good vice presidential pick..
The guy I liked..Mitch Daniel won't run...don't know much about Perry yet.

I'm not really impressed with this field...if this is it..I'd be prepared for another 4 years..of the same

I think we'll have a better idea of things after today. Given a choice though, between Romney and Perry, I'd go with Perry. I think Romney is just too much an "establishment" Republican to really get things going in the right direction. Like Bush, he says a lot of the right things, but there's the sense he just thinks he can be a better Democrat (I could have said spender, but it's synonymous with Democrat).

I don't really think the field will shape up very much until after Labor Day, then we'll have 2 or 3 serious contenders, probably 3.

I tend to agree with you on that, especially in business. Telling me how honest and christian you are while trying to negotiate a deal, to set off the BS radar.

But I don't think Perry was planing on running for president when he signed on to the prayer rally. He will of course give a few pro christian remarks as time goes by, but he's not as religious as the national press is trying to make him out to be. He also really believes the whole states rights thing when it comes to gay marriage, at least in my opinion.

Who do you think has a real chance of making the top two to three candidates?
