Genmaicha, green tea with roasted rice, is THE tea at my house (and in my office/lab).

absolutely , couldn't agree more ....

Genmaicha, eh ? I wonder if that is what they serve at our local sushi bar ? It certainly looks a bit similar and doesn't taste like normal green tea.

Probably. I don't know about your neck of the woods, bit it's pretty common in restaurants around here, as well as asian markets. If it tastes sort of "nutty" and has what looks like little bits of popcorn in it (they're actually bits of puffed rice), then that's the stuff.

yep, nailed it. Goes exceptionally well with sushi and sashimi. Maybe not as well as Sake but pretty damn good.
