GE Jobs going to China

General Electric is planning to move its 115-year-old X-ray division from Waukesha, Wis., to Beijing. In addition to moving the headquarters, the company will invest $2 billion in China and train more than 65 engineers and create six research centers. This is the same GE that made $5.1 billion in the United States last year, but paid no taxes-the same company that employs more people overseas than it does in the United States.
So let me get this straight. President Obama appointed GE Chairman Jeff Immelt to head his commission on job creation (job czar). Immelt is supposed to help create jobs.
I guess the President forgot to tell him in which country he was supposed to be creating those jobs.
If this doesn't show you the total lack of leadership of this President, I don't know what does.

General Electric Co.’s health care unit, the world’s biggest maker of medical imaging machines, is moving the headquarters of its 115-year-old X-ray business to Beijing.

“A handful’’ of top managers will move to the Chinese capital and there won’t be any job cuts, said Anne LeGrand, general manager of X-ray for GE Healthcare. The headquarters will move from Wisconsin amid a broader plan to invest about $2 billion across China, including opening six “customer innovation’’ and development centers.

The division should have “double-digit’’ growth rates as the country converts from film and analog to digital X-ray technology, LeGrand said.

Typical Obuma and the Dems. Lie, send jobs overseas then have a press conference or a "photo op" telling all the jobs they have "saved or created" whle trying to say that they have a "firm grasp" on the economy but the "obstructionists in the tea party are holding us back". What a load of crap. 2012 is going the another of Obuma's "shellacking" moments. He's making Jimmy Carter start to look better all the time.

Standard practice for Jeff Immelt, and GE...that is why he and Obama are so close...

say one thing and do another. Neither care about the US or the people who live and work here

Since G.E. paid no taxes, I would have thought the right wingers would like this consequence of their ideas. Free Capitalism in action.

Any company moving jobs to another country should be taxed an amount equivalent to the money they are investing in that country - hows THAT for a left wing radical idea?

It is free capitalism. GE can move their business anywhere they want. Doesn't it strike you as a bunch of crap when the guy Obama appointed to lead job creation in the US does it? Instead of moving GE jobs overseas, shouldn't Immelt have worked with the Obama administration to create a business climate that would make it more desirable to keep jobs here?

Let me ask this.

I we didn't want $100.00 per hour, health care, 4 day work week, 30 days sick leave, 30 day vacation, 2 hours of breaks per day and the list goes on and on.

Would companies still be shipping their companies to China?

The only problem I have with it is that the entire rationale for "investing in the future" was that it would create high tech jobs in the US. Now, GE's radiology/MRI division, it's wind power division, compact fluorescent bulb plants, and who knows what else are heading over to a hostile nation in waiting, where companies trade hard-earned knowhow for a less regulated environment.

Capitalists knew these "programs" were BS, as socialist governments have a long history of destroying the very entities they claim to wish to protect.

It's monstrous, more fascist than "radical left wing".

Short of doing so in a way that empowers a declared enemy, the owners of GE - and I'd bet most people her are owners - have the right to move their business divisions and plants wherever they wish -- Canada included.

Sweeping proposals like blocking such reactions to US regulations and salaries not only violate the Rights of Americans, but they purposely eradicate the feedback - the consequences - of a government gone wild. We'd throw anyone gouging out the eyes of a raccoon in jail, yet we want to cut off the feedback/realities of today's corporate climate and a statist government that never met an aspect of life it didn't wish to control.

Yes, because they can get people to work for a couple of bucks an hour in toxic environments and everything else that goes along with an economy in the beginning stages of development. If they want to invest and create jobs there fine, but when they take all their tax breaks etc. and then MOVE operations and jobs there, there should be some recapture of the benefits they received here.

Expecting people here to work for Chinese wages in Chinese conditions is not the answer.

And let me know where I can find that $100/Hr. job you described - I'll forgo my early exit from the workforce and take it - or is it just more right wing rhetoric and not an actual job?

The LIKE you got from Rantar should tell you something about the reality of your post.

You could start with "underwater welding" (not an easy nor safe job), "anesthesiologist", "commercial pilot", "arbitrator", "orthodontist", "tatoo artist" (but few 40 hour work weeks) or "Life Coach" (something you left coast nancy boys would seem to fit). If you look, there are several $100 per hour jobs. That is if the left really wants to work rather than live on government handouts.
