Bad laws that never worked.
Ok, I know we've talked a lot about Cannabis prohibition and such, but I would like to focus on other bad, crazy laws that never worked that they still play with.
This can be any bad law from any time period or country.
I'm going to start with an ancient time when it was against the law to be Hebrew. And the punishment was death for being a Jew.
It was in the time of King Ahasuerus. And, his wife the queen disobeyed him. He wanted her to disrobe in the front of him and his friends when they were drinking and probably drunk. She refused, so he divorced her and remarried, Queen Esther, who was a Jew, unrecognized.

At one time in England, the penalty for attempting suicide was death.
Until the 70's in Victoria B.C., the Provincial capital, there was still a law on the books that REQUIRED all adult males to wear a sword when in public after dark.
At the start of WWII England still had a single, occupied position of coastwatcher to look out for the Spanish Armada. That person must have done a lot of reading!
Lets hear more of these.

So it's O/K in broad daylight?
And not being able to fire your gun while the woman is having an orgasm? There goes that elusive simultaneous......
Seriously, some of these seem pretty suspect - is there any confirmation they are real? Farting on Thursday?????

Is any confirmation that anything in the SN Off Topics forums is real?

How bout this one
Or rather these....
When two trains meet each other at a railroad crossing, each shall come to a full stop, and
neither shall proceed until the other has gone.
It is illegal to take more than three sips of beer at a time while standing.
Up to a felony charge can be levied for promoting the use of, or owning more than six dildos.
It is illegal for one to shoot a buffalo from the second story of a hotel.
It is illegal to milk another person’s cow.
A recently passed anticrime law requires criminals to give their victims 24 hours notice, either orally or in writing, and to explain the nature of the crime to be committed. (yeah, right!)

For all of the times I have had these "dumb laws" things forwarded to me, I have never once seen any of the laws sourced. And have never been able to actually find the laws. More internet nonsense I think...

When I originally saw the three I posted, they were sourced but that was decades ago, long before the internet so I sure can't do it now. I just remembered them because they were so nuts.
Wait, The one about the sword was in the Vancouver Sun when it was found and deleted from the municipal bylaws in Victoria.
You'll just have to trust me on the other two.

I don't doubt some of them are real. I also think some of them, for instance "It is illegal to milk someone elses cow" may be taken out of context. Having a law specific to stealing milk direct from the source doesn't seem unreasonable, particularly in a rural area. But looked at from the perspective of most people these days it seems strange.
I tend to think some are the result of poor context, some are truly ridiculous, and the rest are simply internet myths. But I tend to doubt almost anything I read on the internet unless it is sourced, and I consider it particularly to lack credibility if it arrives via a forwarded e-mail.
