Tea Party Debate

My highlights so far are Rick Perry's inconsistency on Afghanistan, audience applauding Perry's plan to indict Bernanke for treason, audience booing Ron Paul for explaining that not all Muslims should be held accountable for extremists, and audience shouting "Let him die!" in response to question regarding a man dying without insurance.

Some amusing parts (but not such big hitters) include Huntsman referencing Perry's "treasonous comment", Bachmann zinging Perry's vaccine mandate, Perry admitting cutting tax cuts revenue, and Perry failing to commit himself to whether he thinks Social Security is unconstitutional (which even Ron Paul claims is not so).

To be honest, the party coming off as looking the worst is the audience. The politicians are typically vacillating (knowing that any position they push too hard here will cost them later), but the audience... yeah, it's making the Tea Party look pretty bad.

-laugh- I just heard that the Birther folks were using the debate to bleat about the "real" birth certificate. Some people can't let go of their favourite conspiracies..

Sorry, I recorded it on the FoxTel box (cable TV with built-in/restricted TiVo). Not sure if there is a copy/stream of it out there, but if there is - it'll be on the CNN website somewhere.

Maybe this is what you meant...

Huntsman wasn't the oddest contribution to the night, however. Discussing the individual mandate, CNN's Blitzer asked Paul a hypothetical question about a young man without insurance who is severely injured and requires hospitalization for six months. Who would pay for his care? Should society "just let him die?" "Yes," came a few calls from the crowd. It was chilling. Paul said charities would pick up the tab as they did when he was first practiced medicine, in the pre-Medicare era. The macabre audience response wasn't the first. At the last GOP debate, the mention of Texas' more than 200 executions drew cheers. There are five more debates scheduled for this year. At this rate, they should schedule one for Halloween.

My friends are tacky.

The President's Union friends occupy and disrupt public spaces (Wisconsin) or bully people and destroy property (Washington State)

I like my freinds better!!

That incident is the one I am referring to (amongst the others). With that said, I find the open call to let a person die due to lack of insurance somewhat more severe than "tacky". Tacky is when you choose lime green curtains for your orange family room. The audience would be what I call "sickening".

As your snippet called it, I find it macabre & chilling that a supposedly widely supported movement of USAsians are that cold & lacking in human decency. If you watched the debate, you would have seen that not even the outright liberal Ron Paul took that step.

I admit I missed the cheers for Texas executions (I was working and watching the tube at the same time). Doesn't surprise me though.

And I'll bet they are in the front row pews every Sunday, wearing out their knees praying and singing the loudest.

Now that would be unforgivable.

But even if so, I'd STILL like them better than the President's freinds!!

I'm no Tea Party FanBoi, but should we be condemning the group over what was obviously a couple of people, when it came to the "scenario" presented to RP? As for the Texas executions, I didn't see the question, or the response, but I believe you'd get a similar level of applause from a lot of different crowds: not just the Tea Party.

That exchange I did see.

But the set up was the cow-eyed sap setting up the question about the Governor's conscience bothering him.

The questioner obviously forgot where he was!!
