Obama is in big trouble

If the NY 9th district can elect a Republican, there isn't much hope for Obama.

Republican takes Anthony Weiner's former House seat in New York - latimes.com

Quote:
Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans 3 to 1 in the district, which has not been represented by the GOP since 1923.

I wouldn't make too much of a generalization from one district. Particularly given the high profile scandal that was the basis for having this special election in the first place.

Or it might give the Democrats across the country enough of a kick to realise that they'll lose if they don't get out and vote. You haven't even got the Republican candidate lined up yet (which I still predict will not be Cain ), Obama has (yet) to get himself caught in an Internet sex scandal, and you're ignoring the advantage of the incumbent (missing in this particular election).

I'm not not saying Obama is guaranteed to win... which is kind of the point. Predicting who will be president when one doesn't even know who is standing for election is somewhat premature. Not to mention all the people that claimed how obvious Obama was going to lose to McCain in the last election, how Bush was definitely toast the election before, etc.

On the other hand, neither candidate running for this office were involved in that scandal and you have Democratic candidates that have been campaigning against Obama. This is the continuation of the 2010 tide. The passing of the Affordable Healthcare Act through reconciliation caused a huge amount of resentment. Democrats are still being spanked for it.

The GOP also won a special election in Nevada yesterday to fill a House seat.

I was watching CNN during lunch and a analyst was discussing how the republican win in NY yesterday did not mean anything as the area was not that heavily democrat and the marginal win for Obama was not that great.

The area is predominantly Jewish (typically Dem leaning) and Obama won the district hands down, not to mention it has been held by a Dem for 80 years typically getting 65% plus of the vote.

She went on to say the more important race to watch will be the race in Mass. between Brown and Warren that this race made a larger statement if Coakly won. The area in question is a Dem leaning area that again has been predominantly held by a Democrat but elected Brown a moderate Repub. in the last election.

Talk about delusional...it is amazing what people will go on TV and say for money.

No, Obama will be just fine. It's America that's in big trouble.
No matter who gets elected.
