Great news for President Obama!!

Herman Cain Wins Florida GOP Straw Poll!!!

First the WRW crowd boos an active duty soldier at their most recent dog-and-pony show, now this.

As Dr. Thompson once said, "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro."

The farther the GOP sinks into the quagmire of the Teabagger corner of the political landscape, the better off the Democrats (and the country) will be in Nov. 2012.

Much as I'd love to take comfort from the result:

Romney and Bachmann had both left Florida before the voting began and their campaigns discounted the straw poll's role in the campaign.

Other first-tier candidates hadn't actively organized for the Florida vote, either. So the results probably won't shuffle the campaign's standings and were shaping up as little more than a popularity contest among the delegates selected by local party organizations.

It's hard to fix what is already broken. There was no prevention taken from administrations all along the way from both sides before him. He's a politician, and not Houdini. It will probably take as many administrations to fix it as it did to break it.The problem is that no one is willing to make the tough choices. Getting the vote in more important.......i2f

Not at all ssneade, when Fox News states the result is nothing more than "a popularity contest among the delegates selected by local party organizations", I'm not fussed.

Even the right-wing commentariat knows that this result is not really reflective of the true standings. I guess you'll cling to whatever you can though. I'm still standing by my initial predictions (unlike others who have wavered suggesting that Cain will lose and become a cabinet member or Senate politician as a result ).

Ron Paul won a straw poll too... funnily enough, he still isn't looking like a front-runner (and more people contested that poll than this one!)

Straw polls don't count for much, never have. The people voting aren't representative of actual party voters. They are interesting to watch but that's about it.

Still waiting for a "white knight" to appear. (no matter what race they are)

Granted, I would vote for any of the current challengers over Obama but I would rather have someone to vote for than against.

To be honest, whilst we're on opposite sides of the political divide, I'd like to know how often it is that one gets that opportunity (to vote for someone rather than against their opponent). How often have you been inspired by a candidate and voted for them as opposed to disgusted by one and voted against?

Due to the way parties have killed what I would consider the proper function of a "representational democracy", I haven't yet been able to vote for someone. I know quite a few people did so for Obama, but it's never happened over here. And, due to the fact our entire country is to the left of the US (like most the world I reckon, but that's another debate), I'm nowhere near as picky about our politicians... it's just they ALL suck.
