Should a candidate have at least SOME clue as to how our government works?
From an interview Pizza-man gave to CBN:
Quote:
Brody: Are you for some sort of pro-life amendment to the Constitution that in essence would trump Roe v. Wade?
Cain: Yes. Yes I feel that strongly about it. If we can get the necessary support and it comes to my desk I’ll sign it. That’s all I can do. I will sign it.

First, this probably being a politically losing position in the general election (the general electorate favors keeping abortion legal; about 55% in favor, about 40% against, depending on the poll).
More importantly, amendments to the US Constitution involve votes by the US Congress and State Legislatures, but are NOT subject to either approval or veto by the POTUS. Kinda basic stuff. Pretty much straight from High School Civics. Then again, the interviewer didn't seem to realize the ignorance of Pizza-man's answer either.
Quote:
Article. V.
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

You'd think the party back room boys would vet the candidates to ensure they had a basic grasp of the job before they let them off the leash in public.
But then we wouldn't have had all the entertainment of people like Palin running for high office. Also, what would all the comedians do for material?

That's telling.
I guess Democrats keep their women and minorities on leashes.

You don't seriously think that political candidates aren't controlled by the powers behind the scenes do you?

Oh, I forgot! The US constitution is longer than three pages. Pizza-man probably didn't have a long enough attention span to read it.

More like he didn't have the education thanks to no child left behind, or the time because he makes so little and his bills are so big.
But what difference does that make. As long as Pizza Man remains so, the pres, congress, house, and senate will continue to rape the population of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The evil wicked scoundrels they are. Bankers puppets. They will continue to steal, kill, and destroy by words without faith in Almighty God. But... they all Will Pay the price.

Hey slow,
How about you can it on the pizza man remarks? You only detract from your argument, which has valid points. Regardless of your political affiliation you alienate more than you bring together with such naming.
Instead of having an open and inviting attitude towards political discussion you stifle it immediately by referring to a candidate as a pizza man. Why not change that to rocket scientist steady? Or were you not aware that Mr. Cain did in fact work on and help develop guidance systems of intercontinental ballistic missiles. Much more complicated than making a pizza. Did you just choose to knowingly belittle the man like every other media outlet does any person it disagrees with or turns on? Or are you just ignorant in the facts of your argument?
So far as your question is concerned, yes. However you sit here and deride a candidate for doing the same thing that the other candidates do, let alone politicians. The constitution is paper to most of these people.
I find it much more troubling when candidates cite incorrect scientific data that has national health ramifications than I do some 9th grades civics question mistake.
If your goal is a healthy debate, how about you start with a healthy attitude?

FFS people, im beginning to think your just being subtly racist? Mr. Cain is an EXTREMELY smart person who started with practically nothing. He doesn't have the attention span? He is just a pizza man?
Stop being freaking ignorant regardless of your political affiliation or opinions. The remarks above are indignant and borderline racist.
Check the FACTS. More importantly, CHECK YOURSELVES.

The no child left behind is so retarded I am still upset. How would that policy, enacted by Bush and the Republicans (I would consider my self a conservative independent) have any affect on a man in his 60's? How is a CEO a pizza man? How does a rocket scientist not have the attention span to read over law when he can put together navigation systems for war heads? HOW HOW HOW
Cain is not even my choice of candidate but the prejudice and disdain, even discrimination, shown towards him on this topic is abhorrent. I don't know your age or generation but check your selves. This kind of rhetoric is anything but helpful. It really irks me. At least get your freaking facts straight. Right now I just sense hate towards a black man who did not come from the 'common' stock that the majority of our representatives come from. Or maybe its because your of an ignorant generation who still believes the color of skin dictates place in the world and what can and cannot be achieved.
Grow up and stop preaching FALSEHOODS. Also, keep your remarks in context. No child left behind-- what a stupid and ignorant remark to make. Stupid.
