Gee whiz SJB, would it be better if I joined in the name-calling, condescending, belittlement ya'll seem to feel is de rigueur for civil discourse?

That question presupposes that you have not already joined the name-calling, condescending, & belittlement that has been de rigueur for this forum since before I even started reading posts here, let alone started actually adding my opinion to the mix.
On Rags, I reckon he'll start posting again when he gets bored enough. Each call for his "return" from self-imposed exile probably keeps him amused that much longer. I must say that I do enjoy the conversation more now. Even the guys here I find the most annoying have more to contribute than I was able to tease out of Rag's stuff. Ayn Rand comes up less frequently too

Not at all, you presuppose something that doesn't exist. While I'm certainly guilty of sarcasm, I don't engage in the name-calling, condescending belittling that finds such a welcome home in the posts of those who disagree with me.

I find that only seems to happen when you are being particularly Ragnaresque or deliberately obtuse. Your thoughtful and "legitimate" posts seem to beget the same sort of responses.
I know you feel he should be left in the past but you have to admit you have stepped up many times in his absence.
