SloopJonB will become famous soon enough
The first time I heard about that law was in respect to Henry Kissinger in his heyday. I thought it made a lot of sense then. The only person I've seen where it seemed questionable was that Canadian born woman who was Governor of Michigan (??) She seemed pretty smart and rational the few times I heard her speak but I know little about her.

As Dan says - doesn't seem worth worrying about let alone having a big fight over. Remember the trouble over the ERA?

Also IIRC, senators and house reps also have age limits too. about 28-32 or there abouts......

as noted Kissinger was not born here, and had a very high post, and at times, that post could probably be more powerful if you will than the presidents post. One could probably say the same if one were to be speaker of the house, #1 in the senate too, at times more powerful than the president.

as noted, is it worth changing what seems to work? not really. the laws/rules have been there longer than I have, will be around longer than me......then again, England finally changed the rules of succession such that it is now the first born child, not the first male born! so maybe there is hope for us yet..........naah!

Sloop .... poorly worded on my part ... should have been "barred from a specific public office" I guess.

Marty ... the future monarch must still be Church of England so not all the barriers are down.

SO be it! not ALL barriers are down in England. BUT, being as the church of England, Episcopalian here in the states, are recognized by the Pope, one could say one needs to be Catholic........ doubt this will happen any time soon either! so, we bless what prper changes they be, and move on from there, and enjoy!

By the way, dad's mom is born in Wales too! mom's mothers side some 5 generations back, couple came from (he)Ireland and (she)Scotland.......not sure where that puts me in this fine mess we have here!
