Boy are they in trouble....where is the future in this? And the attitude that it was funny, or "I wasn't given that information"....
and those were the well dressed, well spoken ones...imagine what the middle class kids would have said.
BTW, this just proves that the ENTIRE education (starting at the DOE) system needs to be trashed and replaced. I don't see how any alternative could be worse at educating kids.

But the feeling doesn't last forever. After they get their college degree in Puppetry, and for some reason can't get a job to pay off their student loans, it's time to head down to the occupy camp to complain about "the man" keeping them down.

The Geography knowledge was impressive. Why did so many say 51 or 52 states? Maybe they thought Canada was a state? Maybe Mexico? I know, NAFTA added added 2 by default.

Just out of curiousity, what is role of parents in this whole endeavour? How many discuss the relevant issues of the day with their kids? I am not talking Superbowl.
Ask these kids some sports statistics or about the latest Kardashian escapade, they might blow you away. But is that a marketable skill?
BTW - I saw it, one at least was quite knowledgeable. I t would be interesting to meet the parents.

I agree. When I was teaching I could always pick out the kids who were going to do well by who's parents show up for orientation night at the beginning of the year.
The girl in the gray shirt had it together. Good for her, but it doesn't bode well for her classmates.

In my first year of teaching I made the mistake of telling a parent that I really did not need to see her. My department head rightfully reamed me our for failing for reward a supportive parent. I should have known better. My mother had a grade 9 education and went to every one of my p-t interviews. She was also deathly afraid of teachers. I did not know that until I became one.
Well, her classmates might be looking at their boss in the future.

Here in NC, as no doubt is happening elsewhere, schools are facing budget shortfalls. Unless of course, they aren't public schools. Around here, the non-public schools are growing. From what I've read, that holds true elsewhere. That should be telling us something.
