Really? I wouldn't consider a propane BBQ an "open" fire. I would consider a hibachi burning wood chips an open fire.

Really. I've only lived in 2 marinas on NGBay but have always considered the banning of BBQ use at the dock a standard down here in the US Hopefully I'm making a bad assumption

In the dozen or so marinas I've stayed in on the Chesapeake (two liveaboard, 10ish transient) all have been pretty clear about not using grills on the boat. Most have a charcoal grill somewhere you can use.
