One 28 oz can would work great for 4-6 people depending on what you mix it with. I tried it and like them but way to much for two.

BBQ salmon steak from the company "chicken of the sea". This stuff is amazing. The local cheap grocery store had packs of this stuff on sale and I bought one to try it out, later went back and bought cases of the stuff it is so good. I especially like it with rice. Open up the container and out pops an actual whole piece of salmon that has been sitting in BBQ sauce since it's packaging, and then squeeze out the extra bbq sauce on the steak and on the rice. MMMmmMmmMmmMM M M mMM mMMM mmmm. This is something I could eat everyday without getting tired of it.

provisioning

for pancake mix i like krusteaze butter milk mix. you just add water. i buy it for home in the heavy duty 10 lb resealable bags at sams club. i seems to last forever. some on this thread like dinty moore beef stew !! i think its ok for dog food. many years ago i would slice spam & broil it, then put mustard on it. it tasted good, but i haven't tried it in a few years. by the posts on this thread there seems to be a lot of good canned meat today.

Bought some online from "Best Prices Storable Foods". Mixed the canned beef (smelled like dog food, tasted like pot roast) with dehydrated vegetable soup from the market. Tastes great. Everyone had seconds. That was 14oz beef mixed with 8oz dried soup and 2 quarts water. Fed four.

I will try that, I like those simple recipes that taste good. I haven't had much success with the cruising recipe books because the recipes are usually too time consuming/complicated for me to do in a short amount of time. I simply don't need to entertain every day, so I usually just want the 5 minute version of whatever so I can eat and go. I'm also amazed at how many cruising recipe books use ingredients I never plan to have on my boat, I mean who actually has fresh milk for example ?

Civilian MREs

I picked this up at a Truckstops of America stop along Interstate 78. Not bad, and convenient ... but probably a little bulky for long-range provisioning.

Practicing for cruising, we bought some Kirkland (Costco) canned chicken. We made chicken salad sandwiches, really great, and some chicken enchiladas. Fot the enchiladas I just stirred some salsa verde in with the chicken and rolled it into the tortillas, topped with sauce and cheese- MMMMMMMMMMM!
I'll be repeating that one, 5 minute dinner and it was great.

That heater meal would be great for smaller boats and single handing. I used to bring those kid's meals "lunchables". They had meat, cheese, and crackers. I could eat them at the helm with no prep. I've also gotten by on cereal bars or cold beans. I don't want to cook for hours either, but I do want good food, it makes a happier cruise (and crews).
