The best thing about Rum is that you can take it back to the store and trade it for Scotch.

Best Regards,

Barbados' Finest

I was lucky enough to travel to Barbados recently and got hooked on Mt Gay (Extra Old or Eclipse, whatever's available.) Even visited the distillery and tasted pretty much everything they made. Coolest thing they sold was only available to the Barbados market. Basically it was a 12 oz glass bottle full of Eclipse (think old glass coke bottles).

Brought some out at a family get together recently. My in laws giggled profusely when they saw the name on the label, until I told them the name of that other fine bajan rum...yup, cockspur. They about fell out over that one. I prefer mine with cola and lime. The Red Bull Cola actually works surprisingly well.

BTW, I noticed the marketing for the 2 was very specific on the island. Sailors drank Mt Gay and Cricketers drank Cockspur.

$300 per shot for Havana Club Anejo Reserva! I buy it in Tijuana for $10 a bottle! It's the best rum I've ever had, but that's a total rip-off.

Edit: Hopefully they will lift the embargo soon, and we can buy it cheaply and legally in the USA.

I drink Ron Rico straight. After awhile it tastes fine.
I am a lot more picky about my coffee since I am usually sober when I drink that.

Pyrat is good. Love Cockspur and Mt Gay (does that sound funny to anyone else?).
Recently I was at a party where the only rum was Captain Morgan. I've never been a fan of using it to mix, but I did find it agreeable on the rocks.
I'm still keeping Black Seal and Black Strap on the counter.

Pyrat is good. We alternate between Pyrat XO and Ron Zacapo 23.

If you ever happen to be in Anguilla, go by the Pyrat distillery and sample the Pyrat Cask 23. That may well be the best sipping rum in the world. (At >$200 a bottle, it ought to be.)

Give Zaya a try. Its right up there with my 2 favs, Ron Z & Pyrat. Maybe a touch ahead. Cheers!

a friend of mine who works in the Carribbean brought me back a bottle of El Dorado 25 year old, which is 30 years old at this point. Unbelievable.

St James and Hurricane are awesome too if you can find them. Both very oaky and sweet.
