Aside from learning about the disgrace of sailing around with a wrinkly main - D&S consumption has been the best thing I've gleaned from this joint.

We cannot find Barritts in our area, but Stewarts Ginger Beer is a good substitute, with lots of lime. Wow, they go down easy!

BevMo should have a couple brands, Bundaberg is a nice option.

I've used ginger ale and it wasn't bad. Avoid Jamaican Ginger Beer--it's really spicy!

and ya gotta use Goslings!

Its a Dark & Stormy man, its supposed to have a bite. I found the Jamaican ginger beers to be to fruity.

Dark's

First had them in Newport @ the Ark for the America's Cup.
Have had one or two since then....
The best place i've had them is The Dinghy club (pink bldg) in Bermuda is a great spot for the cocktail. Mostly locals. The Willy T on Norman Island, BVI, has great one's also, so I've read.... Have made "partly cloudy's" for those who want a toned down version of the dark.
There was an article in the WSJ about the cocktail. Pretty funny. They were most emphatic about building them. The only thing that goes into a dark is Gosling's, Ginger beer and "if you have to put a lime in it, please don't squeeze it." Some folks add a dash of bitters.
Cheers

Bermudahigh - love the name. Kind of says it all!

I've not tried the bitters - but I'm definitely game.

Now I want to hear more about Newport and the Ark! Sounds like you've had some serious adventures! Great pic, dude!

My new motto is "Please don't squeeze it."

Ice

1/4 lime

2 ounces dark rum (recommended: Goslings Black Seal Bermuda Black Rum)

10 ounces of ginger beer (recommended: Milligan's Island Tropical Mango Ginger Beer)

Lime wedge, for garnish, optional

Fill a 12-ounce glass with ice. Squeeze the lime wedge over the ice in the glass. Drop the wedge into the glass. Pour the rum into the glass. Add the ginger beer. Stir lightly and garnish with another lime wedge, if desired.
Am I the only one that goes pretty much 50/50 with the rum?
