I guess I'm just not uppercrust like the rest of you as I've been perfectly content with Cook's ginger beer or Old Tyme when I can't find Cook's. As far as rum, no better rum than Pusser's. After all, the original dark and stormy came from the British Navy.[warm rum ration and extract of ginger root to battle sea sickness]

Gosling's ginger beer is quite good, seems lighter than Barrits.

Anyone tried a D&S with pussers instead?

Actually I'm surprised the White Horse Tavern doesn't use Yacht Club ginger beer, made right here in the Ocean State. I always use a 1:2 ratio of rum to ginger beer... perhaps I've been over-serving people.
