Food Saver

I got one of these (vacuum sealer things) over the summer and tried it out on a couple of cruises. I absolutely love it. I make a meal at home, put it into a bag, vacuum seal it and freeze it. Or smoke a chicken/ham, seal it and and toss it into the cooler to take to the boat.

Quick, easy, tasty meals with no problem. Boil in water or microwave (both work, benefits of water is power usage and no micro-side effects, con is heat in cabin during the summer).

Little or no cleanup (saves water) and it''s easy meal-planning. The frozen items stay frozen for several days (under the freezer section of the fridge).

Even messy things like a good raw steak works great, as the system SEALS the steak, so no juices floating around the bottom of the fridge.

I keep it at home and use it to prep food. When provisioning I can vacuum pack pre-proportioned things like rice or pasta. They stay fresh, and if I don''t use them on the trip, I can keep them aboard without worrying about them getting ruined with the humidity.
