I'll second the garlic. I also like cooking aboard with tin foil. Olive oil, garlic, white wine and shrimp encased in a few wraps of tin foil over a flame for about 5 minutes... yeah, baby...

golly, who has all that stuff on a sailboat? on a really good day I can find a beer and a bag of peanuts! seriously, I can't believe no one suggested a small summer sausage, sliced thin, some cheese slices, and a box of waverly wafers!

I like to smoke salmon or blufish and make a spread with it. Goes great with a dry white wine

Freesail,
My wife goes so heavy on the garlic that I swear I can smell it emanating from my skin a few hours later. Mabye it'll keep the no-see-ems away.

Growing up in a Italian American home, the smell of garlic and pine sol are fond memories.
It may work on no-see-ems but doesn't work on greenhead flys.

TB, I received an email last week of a Chinese marketplace displaying those same buggy pictures ... no thanks, not even chocolate coated

But on another note, a creme cheese (again!) crab dip is simple to make and scrumptious too. You can easily jazz the mix up with Old Bay, chopped garlic or scallions, almond slivers etc., served on crackers
OR try creme cheese and mint jelly over crackers also.
Any smoked fish is the food of kings, yum
