Ice cream

We want to make our own ice cream (we eat a low carbohydrate diet and can''t handle the sugar in most commercial products). The only ice cream makers I have found either require you to pre-chill a canister that will never fit into the freezer compartment of my refrigerator (large enough for a few hamburgers or popsicles at most). The manual ones that require salt and ice are generally huge, and I really can''t afford to give up that much space. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Ice cream

You can make single servings the same way that those "hand crank" manual icecream makers work. I don''t have the recipee, but just use the normal ingredients, mix those in a small ziplock bag and then place that ziplock plastic bag in a larger one filled with ice and salt (make sure the small one is sealed or you will have some salty icecream). Then just sort of message the ice around the bag. It takes some work (5-10 minutes), but you will burn off the calories that you are about to consume. My engineering community serice team made the icecream with some kids on a Discovering Engineering Day at our University (they loved it).
