Re: Cheap UHT milk/cream & Coffee

i found the outdated stuff isnt bad-is just outdated--still lasts 5 days in tropix sans fridge--not like real milk products without weird additives or weird processing-those only last a short time--half and half here only lasts 2 days as opposed to 5 in san diego. no --i still have no fridge..

what is sterile stuff gonna do--defy laws of science and grow bugs?? gawd knows it doesnt sour.....

"Not identical but similar and arguably better from some nutritional points of view.
Cow's milk? Well, most mammals lose the ability to truly digest it before one year of age. So you're drinking something your body is not designed to drink.
As to being water...mammary glands evolved from sweat glands, so yes, you are basically drinking cow sweat when you drink cow milk. Um um, yummy. And of course, you're depriving a calf of sustenance. And, cows have been so heavily bred over the years that if they're not milked regularly, they're in great pain from the "enhanced" udders."

I would argue the reverse. Humans have been drinking cow's milk for about 12,000 years, and the consumption of it perfectly tracks the advent of human civilisation (the transition from nomadic lifestyle to a society which remains in one place permanently, requires agriculture including a dependence on cattle)

Genetically, we are in the process of adapting to cow's milk. Most Westerners are genetically adapted (they have the gene for the production of an enzyme to digest lactose) and can digest it very well with no ill effects, while a few cannot.

Unfermented soy products like soy milk were invented in the last 50 years by US agribusiness. The human body has never seen anything like them, and they are toxic in numerous ways.

Interestingly, Asians, who have used soy for thousands of years, learned that it must be fermented to make it safe to eat. (ie, Tofu)

Here is an article discussing some of the ill effects of soy milk. Think of it as drinking a chemical byproduct of GM soy production.

Re: Cheap UHT milk/cream & Coffee

cow mi,k and cream have been in use for centuries as a gastric medicine--fixes heartburn(cream, half and half? is part of a special diet for ulcer patients--still is as there hasnt been a replacement for it yet. sippy diet is the recuperation from ulcers diet.... goes GREAT in coffee as a buffer, using the previous history.....

yes, some people are sensitive to lactose--many are not ..
some people enjoy the flavor of cow milk products--some do not like that flavor.

soy milk tastes evil. yukk and donot place in any proximity to my mocha...f gods wanted us to drink soy milk, they woulda made it come from cows.

(dontcha love the attitude!!!!???)

do we have an eating popcorn icon>?????

Re: Cheap UHT milk/cream & Coffee

Expiration is not always about the product going bad from bacteria. Often it is when the product itself starts breaking down. This could be benign and simply make the stuff taste bad or not function, like yeast.
I do love sweetened condensed milk in really strong coffee though! Plant juice just doesn't cut it, be it soy, coconut or whatever. As an omnivore I feel compelled to eat meat, dairy, grain, vegetables with no bias. As a sailor I don't complain about its condition, at least not loud enough for the cook to hear!

"As an omnivore I feel compelled to eat meat, dairy, grain, vegetables with no bias."
As an omnivore, you were designed and programmed to consume dairy only until you were weaned, and then you lose most of the ability to digest it. As well as the ability to procure it, in the natural environment.
It wasn't until the artificial environment of shpeherds and all came around that dairy became a food group again, so it certainly isn't in your programming genetically.

As for why some tribes think termites are yummy while most of us just abhor bugs...except maybe crabs and lobsters....no accounting for taste, is there?
