Can you sand ablaitive for racing

Interesting discussion. I have used Micron CSC the last 2 seasons on my 24'', but haven''t raced it. I chose it on the recommendation of a few local club racers who said they wouldn''t use anything else. I roll it on, and skipped the wet sanding, since I''m not yet actively racing.

When I was in fresh water, I used VC-17, rolled it, and wet-sanded. I was competitive, and my boat consistently known as one of the fastest in the fleet.

Comparing my sailing now to then (realizing I don''t have race results to measure against), I watch my boatspeed all the time, and haven''t felt "slow" at all. I''d think I''d have noticed it, I''m pretty attentive about it. I brush the bottom clean occasionally, and would do it prior to (almost) every race (certainly the big ones) if I were racing.

My 2 cents would be in line with those who have said your bottom isn''t going to be the deciding factor in your racing, not at the stage in which you''re still learning the boat anyway, for certain. I sanded for a fresh coat this spring and had no problems. I''d recommend you give it a light sanding and race it as it is. Good luck.
