atomic 4 igniition points

I am having to replace my points due to burnt points in less than 2 months. This has happened for about 3 years in a row. No engine changes/alterations have been made. I need help or suggestions. Engine is a late model A4

It's been a very long time since I had an A4.

Have you tried putting on a new coil wire, with the new points? I also seem to remember once getting a distributer cap right out of the box, that had a small hairline crack in it. The Rotors can also get cracked.
How's the timing...? any chance you have the distributer wires out of firing order?
When it's running during that 2 month period how does it run?

you are replacing the condenser every time you do the points? A bad one will show up in burnt contacts...

We tune it each fall, with a complete change of plugs, wires, condenser, cap, and rotor. It runs good until the points burn. We have tried changing the coil also. Could this be some kind of distributor problem?

then you are at the distributor/timing/dwell, or else leaving the key on too long...something is causing current to flow for too long...not sure, but you may have a ballast resistor that has failed....but they usually fail opening which would cause the engine to NOT start at all.

Points burn out because of constant current flowing through them for to long with out the engine running . or you need to check all connections back to ground if the distributor mounting surfaces are not clean and dry they can cause high resistance that can burn out points make sure all grounds on the motor are also clean and dry. if the alternator spikes like say you disconnect the battery wile it is running you can burn out points usually this causes the diodes in the alternator to go out and you would need to replace the alternator but you could get lucky and the alternator still works. and last I will give you a scenario that I bet every one has done ones or twice. I see this time and time again on the Model A fords I work on for my Club. So you are working on the motor and the battery runs down you connect a charger to charge the battery wile you are working on it you leave the key on .

Do you have a ballast resister? If not, the points see full 12 all the time instead of just while cranking (which isn't really 12 because of voltage drop of starter but coil is designed for 8 .New electronics would be a good place to make it all better.
