S2 cockpit sole core material

Does anyone happen to know what S2 used for the core material in their cockpit soles? (such as plywood or balsa or whatever, and what thickness?)
Specifically I have a 1979 8.0B. I need to recore an area and would like to use the same material as was used originally if possible.

Not certain, but odds are it would be end-grain balsa... you'll be able to tell once you're into the project..

Are you sure the cockpit sole is cored? I've always thought it was straight fiberglass. Can't wait for some decent weather so I can take a better look. I know the decks of my 8.5 are cored with end-grain balsa, though.
