What kind of boat is this?

Does anyone know how I can find out the make and model of a sailboat?

It's 30 plus feet
Single mast sloop
Diesel inboard

What kind of clues do I need to look for to find out what kind of boat this is?

Re: What kind of boat is this?

A picture would help. Otherwise, look for markings, like manufaturer names/logos near the cockpit (sometimes at the aft end, near the rubrail, sometimes near the sides of the cabintop) or on the top of the mainsail.

If you know the draft, keel type, or other information, sometimes that will help you narrow things down. Check out Sailboat Listings - sailboats for sale and Sailboatdata.com is the worlds largest sailboat database. for pictures and information, but be aware that there are hundreds styles of 30+ foot boats out there.

Re: What kind of boat is this?

GJ,

On the top starboard side of the transom should be a series of letters and numbers. This is the HIN (hull id number). Every boat built after the early 70's has one, though they are us times obscured. If you can find it, there is a USCG database you can type it into and it will tell you, or report it here.

If you can't find it, then post some pics and we might be able to help.

Until proven otherwise, the ship you're interested in is none other than the famous Fart Knocker; the only ship to sail the seas of Uranus.
