DistantStar - I think you're being a little hard on your table... to be able to sit 4 if necessary and yet get it out of the way when you need to... on a smallish 25 footer's not so bad.

The problem with it is that it sticks out from the bulkhead at least 5'' when stowed. It you try to lean on the bulkhead when setting in the settee you hit your shoulder on it.

So, I thought I would share some photos of my redesign project:

dinette1.jpg

Base of the original - note the rot.

dinette2.jpg

new base cut out, will have an almost elliptical shape - and slightly larger than the original.

dinette3.jpg

top and bottom stapled and expoxied in.

dinette4.jpg

cloth saturation.

The design is to incorporate storage into the table and not have the leaves actually attached. instead they will be designed to rest in front of the saloon seats as part of the design and only pulled out when necessary. I find the leafs a bother when trying to sit and relax as one can not really get much leg room.

As a safety precaution I am not destroying the original, or using any parts from it.

I'll update as it goes...But I just started this project this afternoon....

P.S: Good morning to you too BF!

Any Ideas about how to make this table into a berth?

This table is bolted to the deck and the stancion and I wanted to think about removing it and placing in one that folds up on the bulkhead. Then when a temporary berth is used, it can be kept out of the way. Has anyone scene what other CAL's have used for a berth?

Looks like it is through bolted to your compression post or whatever it is...Make a bracket that slides up and down the post but is attached permanently to the table..can have two holes for pinning one at table hight one at bed hight...for the leg thats more difficult to make universal but Im thinking of somthing on the lines of how a ironing board works with adjustable hight stations...made from wood or ss tubing depending on your field of expertise...another option might be to find a hydraulic or manual adjustable pedestal like for a helms chair that would be the right heights or modify one...

I love my layout, the warm woods, accessable hand holds, and plenty of room for entertaining.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
