THe Catalina 380 and the 400 has a centerline queen. I have owned both and have sailed in others.

My personal experience is that a CL berth is absoluetly awesome. It sure beats crawling over someone of smacking them in the head when crawling out in the middle of the night. As far as the aft cockpit CL Queen arangement, there is usually nice chairs at the foot of the bed for sitting up and reading.

If you are claustrophobic, the the only way to go is for a Center Cockpit. Even on my 400 the cocckpit is only... 36 inches away or so.

The V berth, in my opinion, is the best place to sleep on any boat. You get a nice breeze and it is quiet. It is also easier to hear the weather and not be fooled by the wind howling through the rigging. However, it is much more uncomfortbale than the aft by it nature.

As far as sleeping offshore, we always rig a cloth in the saloon settee. The closer to centerline and lower, the more comfortable the ride. If the weather gets bad, we generally either sleep in the saloon floor or the cockpit floor. Sleeping in either a centerline or ath. berth in any kind of weather would seem difficult to me as you would either be bunched up against the cushions or crunched up on the lee side of the boat.

Just my opinions and I realize others differ.

CD,
Your partner in moderating crime has decided to air my sexual piccadillos (sp?) but I'd not thought of your approach before. Tried it last night. Dived in the wombatorium, gave her a quick clip around the ears followed by a beery belch and a "hows about a bit of the old rumpy pumpy then ?".
The amublance driver asked why I would do such a stupid thing and I telled him CD suggested it. Cheeky sod replied that CD is obviously a couple of sausages short of a BBQ.
I get the stitches out next week.

Oh yes, V berths. Well in the days when my chat up lines actually worked........

Seriously, the only problem as you say with V Berths in getting in and out particularly when there is not enough space forward to sleep legs facing aft. But a double up front with a bit of space either side is surely the prefect arrangement in a sub 45'er.

Ok , so the dinky widdle cushions and the rest of crappy nautical motifs will have to go but iI like this setup. (It's the forward cabin of a Moody Eclipse 43.)

We have a centerline queen on our Celestial 48 and at anchor it's nice. We love having guests at the other end of the boat! We are both short (under 5* 10" and can sleep athwartships when off watch. But the aft bunk is typically for use at anchor vs underway. Leeward settee or cabin sole at sea. Good luck with your search/

Wait until I get those orange fishing boat fenders I've been looking at...huge!

Now if I can just find the $400.000 I could get serious about deciding between the Moody or a Malo.

Our three kids love the aft cabin on our Mirage 275. It's a good size space for a 27.5 footer. They take the space over as their private club house and I just keep tossing all their floatsom back n there. They get a hanging locker to boot. Only about 1/3 of the very large berth is under the tapered cockpit. We feel like we have lots of room in the V berth as well since it has an open layout without bulkheads. We can put all three kids to bed and enjoy the main cabin in the evening. Our layout really works well for our family of 5.
