negative rep points aside

frankly i've never been drawn to the design or the absence of a backstay..just seems counterintuitive to me.
i'm a huge fan of trimming my own main, but my traveler is mounted on the coach roof..it is what it is..if i could change it would I?..yes, do i have any plans to change it anytime soon..uhm, no.
bottom line..sail what you like, and like what you sail. (with apologies to my fellow motorcyclists)

No, not at all. Just had to ask. The negative point was from post #10 of this thread where I quoted one of your posts. It was no doubt the work of some loser troll who doesn't even bother to be part of the discussions.

I'll give you one of my points, whatever they are.

For what it's worth to the discussion, I had a dock neighbor for a while last summer from AU who sailed a one-off around the world and it had an arch. Not pretty but apparently seaworthy.

There are/have been more knowledgeable/technical post here, but I’ve owed two hunters with the arch. A 2004 356 and a 2007 44DS, yes the arch is worth a look.

Your goose neck will have to be raised to accommodate the height of the arch, but you’ll never loose a head in the jibe. It also allows for more canvas coverage of the cockpit, but easily enough stowed to let in the sun.

To my knowledge these archs are glove and hand with the factional B & R rigging system, and yes the main sails are greater with larger roach, no battens as most are in mast furling.

The arch really comes together when all lines lead aft, allowing me to truly single-hand both the 356 and 44.

I’ve looked at the mount for the arches, as both were installed after I bought the boats from the factory, they appear to be mounted to the deck, with reinforced fiber glassed areas, and simple but stout backing plates. I do have some spider cracking around both arch bases, but have determined it to be mere gel coating cracks.

Good luck
