Gerard Dijkstra's 50'-Somethings
To my eye, the no-nonsenseness of these offshore designs shines through (I've never seen one in person, so I can't know if the look is just a look ):

Ragnar,
Really pretty boat! Not sure about those cabin "windows" though. I'd love to see one up close.

Ragnar,
These are among my favorite boats. I've been aboard the 60C ( http://www.kmy.nl/aluminium-sailing-...en_bestevaer_9 ) which to my eye is a real beauty. I would lay-out the interior differently, but that's personal preference.
One neat thing I liked was that the interior "helm-station" dispensed with the traditional wheel, and instead the boat was steered via a joystick and the autopilot. That freed up the space to double as a full pilothouse nav/steering station.
Bestavaer also builds some Dijkstra designs with lifting keels that can be beached/careened very easily....

John,
Wow, I love the interiors. They have some nice brokerage boats also.

That sounds great.
Now, how to raise the funds to buy, maintain, and sail her, all day every day? There's gotta be a Gov program out there for people with such "needs."

Correction to my earlier post:
The lift-keel Bestavaers are VanDeStadt designs. Here's one for you, TDW:

Don't expect government to solve this problem for you. Especially when the private sector, heck even non-profits like the NYSE, long ago figured out a solution: The Golden Parachute.

If Gov were limited to its proper functions the oceans would be full of vessel of that quality in no time.

Those are negotiated, ergo, not gimmicks. Let's face it, folks: some people's skills are worth a billion times more than others'.

My sailing mentor had an expression, something along these lines, which he was apt to say whenever we were reaching along in ideal conditions:
"Ahhh, Isn't this great!? Too bad everybody can't do this... On second thought, nevermind -- it would get too damn crowded out here!"
That always set me thinking....
